4.0 out of 5 stars Good German Bossa Nova from Washington DC, Nov 28 2007

I agree with the first reviewer: you're either going to love it or hate it. I particularly like it because of one track, "Von 7 bis 8," a light little number about going out to grab breakfast rolls from a local bakery, the real way to start the day in Germany (especially on the weekend). Do be warned: the lyrics are in German, but the atmosphere needs no translation -- it means relaxation. A cheerful, gentle feeling, accompanied by metallic and sparkling tones. A good CD for a rainy day--it has a sort of rainy or misty day feel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool Bossa Nova riffs with indie-ambient instrumental backing and lyrics in... German!, Dec 20 2006

Unbelieveable. You're gonna love it or hate it. This mutant album fuses the cool bossa nova stylings of Henning Fritzenwalder with the indie ambient music walls of Chessie. The cold-hot bossa nova style is so latin, but with German lyrics delivered in the silvery crisp way by Fritzenwalder the musical convention take a weird dream-like turn. The dream-like quality is heightened by Chessie's melodic ambient noise-like instrumental backings. There's strings, melody, rhythm and all the elements of normal bossa nova - but somehow it's gone down the rabbit hole and ended up totally new. It's weird - and yet somehow totally normal. To a casual listener - or heard in the background it sounds just like regular bossa nova. Turn it up and it all sounds very unexpected. Very nicely done. Totally strange! Recommended.
