A legendary new orleans street performer whose debut album sugar sweet will be released on the 20th of november, grandpa elliott has been entertaining audiences in the french quarter for over sixty years, but his popularity has gone global in the last year after the playing for change hit viral video for 'stand by me', featuring 37 musicians from all over the world received over 30 million views on sites like youtube and vimeo. Grandpa is the first artist to be signed to playing for change records/concord music group. Another playing for change project which sees some proceeds go to the pfc foundation that build music schools around the world in poverty stricken areas.

I first was exposed to Grandpa Elliot through the Playing for Change DVD/CD. I searched all over the Internet and could not find any recordings of his music other than some user-generated videos of him playing on the streets of New Orleans. When I saw that he now has a CD out I was extremely excited to hear it.Sugar Sweet is a bit on the short side, clocking in with nine songs. I was a bit disappointed that more songs were not included, particularly "Amazing Grace," a song in which I have heard him do incredible renditions. That being said, what is included on the CD is very good. The album has a soul/blues feel to it, with Grandpa doing plenty of solos on the harmonica during songs. My favorite track is the gospel song "This Little Light of Mine." Grandpa's voice is perfect for this song.
I hope that we see more CDs from Grandpa Elliott in the future. He is a true American treasure.

I too was first exposed to Grandpa Elliot through Playing For Change and YouTube. His deep, rich voice is so powerful yet still comes across as silky smooth! I wish the album was longer because I could listen to this talented artist all day long. He truly has music in his soul and it'll be very obvious to anyone who listens to this album for even a few minutes.
