Well...It's Sum 41,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sum 41:Chuck (Audio CD)
I'm a huge fan of Sum 41, this CD Chuck is an interesting mix, named after the man that saved them from the Congo. I think the easiest way to sum up the album is to break each song down, so here we go:1) Intro- i'm not gonna neglect this song just because it's an intro. After the intro to Good Charlotte's Chronicles of Life and Death this one is my favourite. 3/5 2) No Reason- Excellent song, one of my favourites from the album and by the band. It's a much faster, heavier song than what they're known for. In my opinion they pull it off. 5/5 3) We're All To Blame- First single from the album. also a good track, the change from fast to slow is a good combination. the lyrics also have meaning. a big step up from classic lines like "trash my own house party cuz nobody came". 4/5 4) Angels With Dirty Faces- Sum 41 continues their legacy of songs when they never say the title in the actual song. "AWDF" is an alright track. i dislike Deryck's voice at the beginning. 3/5 5) Some Say- My third favourite track off the album. This song is more familiar to their pop-punk beginnings. even if its one of my favourites, i find it too similiar to their sonf from All Killer No Filler called "Handle This" 4/5 6) The Bitter End- One of their heaviest songs to date. it's short sweet and to the point, but it wasnt put together aswell as the others. 3.5/5 7) Open Your Eyes- I first heard this song on the Going The Distance soundtrack. i think it's very single worthy, yet there's something about it that makes me think it wont. 4.5/5 8) Sliiping Away- VERY slow song. too slow in my opinion. Deryck's voice is painful to hear when he says "i'm slipping away". as for the rest its alright...still doesnt live up the standout slow track "Pieces". 3.5/5 9) I'm Not The One- I've listened to this album everyday since i got it (the day it came out) and this song does not stand out. 2/5 10) Welcome To Hell- Well, nothing more to say than an excellent song. Cone's bass solo is the first i've ever heard and it works with the the song. 4/5 11) Pieces- Second Single. and the most popular. when i first got the CD this song was amazing. but now radio stations and MuchMusic are playing it too much. aside from all that, the lyrics and music is an excellent combination. stand out track of the album. 5/5 12) There's No Solution- this is my new favourite song by Sum 41. it's a cross between their mellowtastic songs and the harder songs on this record. a deserving 5/5 13) 88- a good closer, but then again Sum 41 always knows how to end an album. nice opening and ending. the line "i hope someday you have it all" and "cuz i feel like a prisoner trapped inside this broken world" make it a very 'poetic' song. 4.5/5 overall this album is Sum 41's heaviest and softest record. a great way to end the anticipation Does This Look Infected left behind. and even though Chuch was not as good as DTLI, overall its an amazing 5 stars.

another good release from Sum 41,

This review is from: Sum 41:Chuck (Audio CD)
If you are a fan of Sum 41, then their newest album shouldn't disappoint. This album is pretty similar to their last album "Does this look infected" (DTLI) as it has some heavy guitar riffs and fast-paced punk-sometimes bordering on metal. There is also some rapping in the verses of some of the songs like in DTLI. However, this album has some slower, more mellow songs unlike DTLI. So, if you liked Sum's first two poppier albums but didn't care for DTLI then I wouldn't recommend this album, but to all those who enjoy Sum's last album, I think you'll enjoy this one also. Chuck is a solid 38 minute long album with heavy guitars and catchy hooks. As far as content goes, the lyrics seem to be a little more serious than on prior albums and seem to be more influenced by current world occurences. But it all comes down to the fact that Sum 41 has done what they do best and put out a quality punk album.
