Book Description

Jan. 4 2010 Summer Bridge Activities
Summer Bridge Activities(TM): Bridging Grades First to Second prepares your rising second grader for a successful school year. The activities in this book are designed to review the skills that your child mastered in first grade, preview the skills that he or she will learn in second grade, and help prevent summer learning loss. No matter how wonderful your child’s classroom experiences are, your involvement outside of the classroom is crucial to his or her academic success. Together with Summer Bridge Activities(TM), you can fill the summer months with learning experiences that will deepen and enrich your child’s knowledge and prepare your child for the upcoming school year. --Summer Bridge Activities(TM) is the original workbook series developed to help parents support their children academically during the summer months. While many other summer workbook series are available, Summer Bridge Activities(TM) continues to be the series that teachers recommend most. --The three sections in this workbook correspond to the three months of traditional summer vacation. Each section begins with a goal-setting activity, a word list, and information for parents about the fitness and character development activities located throughout the section. Bonus extension activities that encourage outdoor learning, science experiments, and social studies exercises are located at the end of each section. --Stickers, flash cards, and a colorful award certificate are also included. 160 full-color pages.

2.0 out of 5 stars low level bridge July 22 2011
By steve - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Had hopes that this would actually be a bridge from grade one to grade two, but the first day my daughter saw it she laughed and when I looked at it I could see why. It was too easy. She flipped to the back of the book and it was still too easy. She's not a genius as far as I know and we'll probably use it in the car a bit, but I thought I would warn others that may be looking at this book. Check inside if possible. I wish I had.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what we needed July 21 2012
By Kerri - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Judging by the pages we could preview and other reviews we ordered "up" a grade -- using the 1st to 2nd Bridge Book for my son who will be entering 1st grade. (The K-1 book is too too easy). The pages are perforated, so I tear out 5 pages each week and place them in his "homework folder" and they are due to me on Fridays before we get an ice cream cone. He keeps the folder in the car and gets quite a bit done there. There are some things he needs help on because they weren't covered yet, but he is able to grasp them easily after a brief explanation from me(like identifying a noun or compound word or less than/greater than symbols). They can be done in 10 minutes/day, even with some teaching of new concepts, and he is making sure he doesn't lose any skills this summer as well as getting "ahead" a little. Our summer program involves this book, Doch sight words the school sent home, and he reads a chapter a night from a Magic Tree House book. Perfect amount of work for the summer months.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Workbook for the Summer June 17 2010
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

This books is well designed. Each page of work is labeled--Day 1, Day 2 etc. This helps to keep my daughter motivated and she knows when she can stop working. Also, the work is short and in the beginning it reviews a lot of work she did in the first grade.

Recommend this to parents who want to keep their kids minds going, but don't have a lot of time to do it. The pages can be done in as little as ten minutes. I like the page labeling--my daughter knows when she forgets to do a page a day--then she can do as many as she likes to catch up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good summer book, perhaps a little too easy July 21 2011
By pickymom - Published on Amazon.com

I like this bridge book, but not as much as the 3-4 grade one. This one seems a little bit too easy for an incoming 2nd grader. It is still great for keeping them working and utilizing old skills though.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding workbook for young children! Oct. 19 2010
By J. Hodges - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
We bought this workbook after receiving the K-1st workbook. My daughter enjoyed completing the workbook. The 'factoids', fitness flashes, flash cards, and stickers are all excellent methods of breaking the monotony and making the workbook fun. Written in a logical and easy to read manner, I intend on buying the 2nd-3rd workbook.
