In my readings of some of my favorite authors I began to see a faint pattern. I began to see references to more positive eschatologies (end time doctrine). I was beginning to see a name repeated, Jurgen Moltmann. Finally the name came up again, I had been convinced it was God talking to me, and, I had the money for a book order. First I got the foundational work "Theology of Hope". If you are a theologian type, I would buy the pair. This book and Theology of Hope. If you are not the studious wordsmith type and don't want to read with your dictionary open, just buy this book, Sun of Righteousness.
I have had a lifetime of rapture and anti-christ teaching and I have had enough. I cannot see the rapture obbessed American church, thankfully a shrinking sector of the church, as preaching the good news of the Gospel. I don't think it is God who asks me to sign a card saying I agree with negative, nilistic end times doctrine before I can join or minister in a church. To curse the earth and expect a wrathful God to waste the loved souls we call the missionfield does not seem the true end of the unstoppable growth of the government of God on Christ's shoulder.
The Old Testament speaks of Yahweh's promises to establish the Nation of Israel firmly in "the Land". Wisdom would say we should take in the full counsel of God on this matter and the majority of clearly definable and in context scripture concerning God's future for the earth is from the Old Testament. Is it wisdom to interpret John's "come up here" visions and Daniel's darkened words as the basis for the story we tell the lost, all the while ignoring the balance of scripture containing the most clearly stated promises of God to restore creation?
The doctrine of subduing the earth with a vengeance is founded in nilism. How different is this caustic end times doctrine from the philosophy of a herd of "Goth" vampires hanging about and bringing down the atmosphere in an otherwise nice coffee house? Do we think we can hide this toxin as we reach out with the good news that God renews lives and is looking to bless rather than to curse us?
We have become dependent on fear of hell to motivate the lost becuase we do not bear the signs and wonders that are the proof of our commision and evidence of God caring about people and the earth. We couldn't "put up" but we wouldn't shut up and in refusing to listen, we became deaf and had to rewrite the gospel to reflect our failed hearing. We rebuilt God in our own image and turned him against any who disagree with our confused, shortsighted philosophy. We try to use God as a weapon against his own creation to gain man's obedience. God forgive us.
Our industrial age education has taught us to look at the earth like it is the job site and ourselves as the jack hammer that molds it. I am no "tool" for God. I am a son who expects the earth to submit to Yahweh's original vision and to be cleansed of innocent blood, thereby taking away the abomination that makes it desolate, so that my Father can walk among men in his garden again. In order to make me curse what God has blessed, you will have to overcome this view in my heart, mind and spirit. Don't hold your breath. You had thrity years of attacking me, the earth and the lost and your doctrines have left you wanting. Come in power or go home!
Moltmann went through the trouble of a lifetime's worth of study on a very neglected subject. It used to seem so hard to see a positive vision of the end, until I looked at scripture in context and in it's whole. Once my eyes opened, they agreed with my heart and the divided philosphies in my mind fell to a solid, scripturally based view of men, God and the earth. Let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Earth without end, amen.
The problem arising with Moltman is the history of Liberation Theology which was largely based on insights found in his writings. The view that God is for the poor of the earth, which is very solid in scriputre, led to an uprising that was co-opted into man's ruling of man, only with a different face. When you abandon the false view of negative eschatology, you end up with ever expanding individual freedoms given by God. If you expect these freedoms to be the gift of government, you can miss the point. This book will help us work through this issue for ourselves and hopefully find answers within the scope of the word of God.
Once I abandoned the thought of a cataclysmic end of all, I had to open to ideas of how mankind would transition into the coming kingdom of God. Seeing it is the taking away the pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness which makes my light arise, I am left with little to point at. Once I stopped accusing God's creation and left any judgment to him, I eased into a peace which had eluded me. I have been freed from the need to scare people away from hell toward heaven and have adjusted my view according to the whole of scripture. This view has prepared me to advise nations rather than curse them. In doing so, God has given me insights into others who have done this, like Daniel, Joseph, etc.
It won't be easy to build a personal doctrine of blessing in the midst of such widespread cursing in the name of God but it is well worth the time and effort. Buying this book will be a sign post on the road to your freedom from cataclysmic visions of you, your childrens' and your grandchildren's future. That supposed future isn't from God. It is not from above but born of cursing and contention. Surely it should not be so among us, the church.
If you want to expand possibilities of where we may go from here, I recommend reading on the new apostolic reformation or enlightenment. Find new books on apostles and weigh the words for yourself. Given the chance I would call what some are calling the new reformation the "Age of Wisdom" as I feel that is what God is leading us into. On the heals of this age, we will see the age of the kingdom ushered in in fullness. I myself have opened to the view that it may come more incrementally as freedom and justice grow in our midst. Of the increase of his government there will be no end. So be it!
