4.0 out of 5 stars Less hilarity but the story builds, Jan 23 2004

The manic energy of the first volume gets turned down a bit in this volume, but that doesn't make this volume any less good in any respect. Instead, you get a bit of character development, especially with Miyu, who didn't really seem to have any growth the last volume and just seemed like a lovestruck girl who is in love with Ran's brother.
In the first episode the whole gang heads off to the swimming pool, where Ran's brother is forced to pay for everyone's entrance fee. Mami Honda, a rival from another city, tries to take over Shibuya during Ran's absense, but Ran proves her superiority upon her return.
The second and third episodes are a two parter, where we learn more about Miyu's past, particularly her involvement in running with a gang. This is good character development for her and shows Ran's caring and concern for her friends and the lengths she'll go to to help them out.
The fourth episode is probably my least favorite one so far although it does have some good Ran moments. The episode mostly focuses on Ran's sister, a grade schooler who wants to be a police officer like the rest of her family so she spends the day at the police box with her brother. A potential hostage situation leads to some frantic shenanigans but I just couldn't get into this episode as much as some of the others.
The last episode introduces Michida Black, another interesting character to the show. The dance craze Para Para is also explained in this episode, helping to explain some of the moves you see the girls make in the opening song and during the intermissions between some of the scenes. Yuya also finds himself with a rival for Ran's affection as he still can't come out and tell her how he feels about her.
Pick up this volume as soon as you can, the good times continue to roll in Shibuya and I can't wait for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Gals is a Great Series, Dec 5 2003

This review is from: Super Gals!: V.2 Never Break A Gal's Heart! (ep.6-10) (DVD)
The 2nd volume in the series continues the non-stop fun. The first ep involves the girls spending a day at the pool while Mami Honda tries to take over Shibuya in their absence. The next story is a 2-part ep about Miyu's gang past, this is well done and shows the series isn't all fluff. The 4th ep is the weakest, it's not really about the gals although Ran is in it a lot, it's mainly about Sayo, Ran's younger sister. I found myself daydreaming through this one. The last ep is probably the best, it introduces the character Machida Black, kind of a modern-day hipster dude who falls for Ran. There is also a hilarious scene where Mami challenges Ran to a table tennis match for control of Shibuya.

Super Gals is super cool and fun, fun, fun to watch. I don't know if I've ever seen anything more fast paced. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWWWWWWW YEEEAAAAHHHHHH!!!, Oct 30 2003

I bought this DVD yesterday. This volume builds on the second one, and focuses of Miyu's situation in the past. I don't want to put in any spoilers, but it looks great. It's preceded by an episode in which Ran and the gang head to the pool. It's like I've dies and gone to heaven. OHHH BABY!

And also, Sayo and Masato seem to provide some cute and warm laughs as well. Great episode after Miyu's case. As of now, I haven't seen the last episode in this volume yet, but hopefully the Machida Black Sunboy known as Tatsuki Kuroi surfaces, causing something yummy for the next volume...I can't wait!
*does a jig on a land mine, gets blown up*
