The central theme of this book is that eating healthy foods, which is lots of vegetables, strengthens your immune system. As a result your immune system can overwhelmingly do its job of keeping you healthy. The result is you stop catching colds and flus. As well your chances of serious disease greatly lessen. Fuhrman cites many longterm studies that show this approach has proven to be healthy.

He also cites studies that show what we generally think are good for us but are in fact not healthy. For example, studies advise against taking vitamin A and folic acid. Fuhrman cites the studies and explains why in the book. Through verified studies he objectively states which supplements are shown to help prevent colds and flus and which ones do not. As well, he makes it clear when the studies have yet to show that something is good for you or bad for you. In other words, he refuses to inject a pile of fluff into his book. This is good.

I am a few months short of 50. I have now followed this way of eating for six months now. At around age 46 I had a large downturn in energy and couldn't figure out why. After only two weeks of eating 'nutritionally' my energy levels have been higher than ever. I have not yet caught a cold or flu since starting, whereas, I used to get colds regularly. Best of all though, my chronic sinus conditions have disappeared. Only took about 2 months. I have also dropped ten pounds, while never considered overweight I did have a bit of a belly (that is now gone).

Every week my wife and I make a nutritious vegetable soup. It is loaded full of cabbage, carrots, onions, leeks, turnips, mushrooms, garlic, parsley, celery, et cetera.
