5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, but FYI: contains the "truth about Santa"..., Jan 11 2004
This review is from: Superfudge (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book along side my 5 year old who's reading Double Fudge. Because he's reading at 4th grade level, we've been searching for books that are just right for him. Little did I know that I myself would enjoy reading Judy Blume's books this much as well. It is a great way for us to bond when the whole family reads the same book--and bonus for us parents to be able to read books that are not dumbed down just because they are meant for kids. In addition, I am also glad that I read the book before handing it to my son because it does "reveal" the "truth about Santa"... Since my son is only 5, unlike most of Judy Blume's intended readers, he still believes in Santa. I've never written an Amazon review before, but I thought I should point this out in case someone else is thinking of getting this book for his/her early reader. If this does not concern you, then I highly recommend this book: I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for kids who can read themselves, also as a read-aloud, Jan 5 2012

I bought this book to read aloud to my daughter, who is just starting to read herself. I had very fond memories of reading this book myself as a child. It's a fun book to read aloud, although I did have to edit out the word "stupid" a few times (my daughter is five).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Funny!, Jun 23 2006
By
A grade 4 student (First Avenue P.S., Ottawa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Superfudge (Paperback)
Peter Hatcher thought it was impossible to have another little brother/sister until his mom told him and his brother Fudge (Farley Drexel Hatcher, age 4) that she was going to have a baby -- one month before the baby was due (gross).

Peter asked if the baby was going to be like Fudge when he was younger, and his mom said "I don't know?" A couple of months after the baby was born they had to move because their apartment wasn't that big. They were moving from New York to New Jersey. Peter was so mad, he wanted to run away. So did Fudge. Then Peter didn't care, he decided that after dinner he was going to run away. But after dinner, he forgot all about it.

So, months after that, they moved to New Jersey and they had this really freaky lady who lived beside them. She dug up all these worms for Fudge and Peter, and Fudge helped her. Fudge put them in a jar that said 'Worms', and he danced around with the jar of worms on his head. Peter was in disgust watching his brother dancing around with worms on his head like that.

I think the book would be good to read if you're from age 8 to 11. No big words, but very funny.

Warning: Parents may not like the series because of food being poured on a child's head and smeared on walls. But kids will like the series because of food being poured on a child's head and smeared on wall.
