Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Tony Campolo, a college professor who is also a popular Christian author and speaker, teams up with Duke Divinity School professor William Willimon for The Survival Guide for Christians on Campus: How to Be Students and Disciples at the Same Time. They encourage college students to use the undergraduate experience to test, think about and ultimately strengthen their faith, not to shy away from tough questions. The writing is down to earth, chummy (with the authors referring to themselves by their first names) and even funny, with numerous examples drawn from popular culture. Campolo and Willimon even pull examples from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which is not exactly typical fodder for evangelical books. Many college-age Christians will find this as indispensable as a toaster oven or micro-fridge.

Book Description

The contemporary college campus is filled with spiritual surprises, daily dilemmas, and difficult questions. Will the Christian faith hold up under the scrutiny of the new knowledge and ideas that bombarded students on the college campus?

Tony Campolo and Dr. Will Willimon -- college professors and seasons authors and speakers -- insist that the Christian faith is not threatened by tough questions. They maintain that some of the greatest minds the human race has produced have put hard questions to Jesus and come away more firm in their faith and more convinced of its truth than ever before.

Whether you are a committed Christian or one who is still exploring the Christian faith, this book will provide sound answers to difficult questions. Open this book and find the help and heart to walk into the jungle of campus life and walk out more than a conqueror.

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful message for modern, university based Christians, July 8 2002
This review is from: Survival Guide for Christians on Campus: How to be students and disciples at the same time (Paperback)
Written especially for college-age Christian young adults, The Survival Guide For Christians On Campus by Tony Campolo (Founder, Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education) and William Willimon (Dean of the Chapel and Professor of Christian Ministry, Duke University) deftly explains how to keep religious faith a central priority in spite of the strenuous demands of secular college studies. Individual chapters address such topics as close reading the bible, better understanding of sermons, evangelization as the simple and open spreading of God's good news, Pentecostalism ("Don't fear encounters with Christians who seem to be different from you"), and the hot-button issue of sex. The Survival Guide For Christians On Campus is recommended as a powerful message for modern, university based Christians seeking to better understand and exemplify their faith in an academic setting.
