Book Description

Oct 5 2010
The premise of this book is that learning to let go of anger and #151;and ultimately forgiving the offender and #151;will transform the foundation of every kind of relationship we have. Stanley defines and nbsp;anger as and nbsp;"a strong feeling of intense displeasure, hostility, or indignation as a result of a real or an imagined threat or insult, frustration, or injustice toward yourself or towards someone who's very important to you." Building on this defintion, Stanley...

1. Helps readers identify the signs of anger, so they can identify anger in themselves. and nbsp; and nbsp;

2. Reveals and nbsp;the far-reaching consequences of anger, which encompass the spiritual, emotional, and physical. and nbsp;

3. Teaches readers and nbsp;how to handle anger through and nbsp;thirteen concrete and nbsp;steps.

4. Walks readers through the steps to true forgiveness and the healing power it brings.

With compassion and a wealth of biblical understanding, Stanley explains that the measure of a person is "the size of thing that makes them angry." He goes on to distinguish between healthy and harmful anger and reminds us that "righteous indignation" is a divine emotion. However, he skillfully explains that misguided anger eats away at ourselves, our relationships with others, and our relationship with God. and nbsp;By helping readers and nbsp;look honestly at the source of their anger, he and nbsp;gently leads them to and nbsp;the ability to truly forgive and find the peace they seek. and nbsp;

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, helpful, common sense advice Jan 7 2011
By Jordan M. Poss - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I asked for this book for Christmas after a pretty rough year. My dad bought it for me and I read through it in just a few days. Charles Stanley's Surviving in an Angry World is a short, simply written book but is stuffed to the gills with comfort, admonition, and plain old good advice.

The book aims to help both those who are angry (my reason for reading the book) and those on the receiving end of anger. The chapters are arranged both thematically, dealing with specific concepts and issues, and also chronologically, in the order these issues will confront the reader as he deals with either his own or other people's anger. Dr. Stanley's advice is both understanding and firm. He writes from his own personal experience to describe how just anger can feel or actually be, but points out--again, from personal experience--that anger and bitterness only hurt the one who's angry. Anger, he emphasizes, is horribly futile and destructive.

Overcoming anger, Dr. Stanley writes, is a combination of choosing to behave rightly and let go of one's anger and begging God's help. He makes sure to point out that only God can bring permanent change in an angry person's life. I could go into greater detail but it's difficult to summarize the wide-ranging content in this book. Dr. Stanley covers it all.

I think the best praise I can give both Dr. Stanley and Surviving in an Angry World is that the book felt like a long conversation with my dad, who has always given me the best advice, generously mixing in comfort and help.

Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource Nov 1 2010
By Patti Chadwick - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
If you struggle with anger or unforgiveness, this is a great resource. Stanley not only helps you deal with anger in an appropriate manner, but helps you to recognize when you are indeed angry...you'd be surprised how much you repress it! If you are tired of your hot temper, I would say this book is a great place to start!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ for everyone! April 11 2011
By L. Nickel - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Truth be known, I had got this book to read to help my daughter with some angry issues (teen). But the book is much more than that. It deals with anger in three levels (my opinion): Your anger, other people's anger, and any future anger out there (my view). If you are wanting to do something in your life about angry people PLEASE get this book and order two more to give as gifts. Also, have a highlighter handy and a cup of coffee because you won't want to put it down. This is a must read for anyone (Christian or non-Christian) who wants to help their own world. GREAT READ!
