Product Description

Description

The hidden world of the Atchafalaya Swamp is their Eden. It's a terrain where nature rules - and history lives. Master gator hunters Troy Landry and Junior Edwards return for a second season of survival Cajun-style deep in the bayous of the Louisiana wilderness. Danger and excitement abound, along with a rich tradition of language, food, music and generations of shared family experience. A colorful cast of characters use techniques dating back to frontier days to live off the land, catching everything from frogs to squirrels and raccoons. Men who make gumbo and snag gators with their bare hands make HISTORY every day on SWAMP PEOPLE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just a Louisianian Who Loves This Show, Aug 23 2011
By Compay - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Swamp People S2 (DVD)
As a Louisiana native, this is hands-down one of the best reality shows that I've had the pleasure of watching. I have a soft spot for the Atchafalaya Basin, and have always enjoyed many aspects of Cajun culture.

What makes Swamp People stand apart from other shows is the terrific cast of characters, and the banter that takes place between them. Living in Southeast Louisiana means knowing someone who lives a stone's throw from a cast member, and can vouch for their authenticity. Conversations about Season 2 with locals will largely involve who their favorite hunter is, and it's never an easy decision (someone give the Guist Brothers their own show).

If I had any complaint about the show, it would be that there are a couple of scenes in Season 2 that are noticeably scripted. From T-Rex being dragged in the boat already tagged (S2E8), to Bruce falling in the water (S2E3), there are a few groan-worthy moments. But that been said, Swamp People is still a far cry from the obvious acting I've seen in plenty of other "reality" programs.

Season 2 covers a short time in the lives of real Bayou folk just doing their everyday thing. Gator hunting is much like shrimping down here in that it's a job that keeps the bills paid. What makes this show enjoyable is the unexpected, but mostly the camaraderie and conversations.

I love that Season 2 offers a glimpse of just one of many cultures of my state to people worldwide. Definitely add this season to your collection.
