Book Description

July 24 2003

No one tells a story like Charles Swindoll. This book is the perfect companion for pastors, teachers, ministry leaders, writers, and speakers. It is full of poignant tales, real-life funny stories, and perfect punch lines.

The book includes a lifetime of Chuck's favorite stories, illustrations, anecdotes, poems, and quotations.

  • Over 1,500 entries
  • Organized in A-Z format by topic
  • Extensively cross-referenced

It's now easier than ever to find the perfect story or anecdote to hook listeners and hold their attention. Listeners and readers will laugh, cry, think, and get the point…and remember it.

If you need just the right illustration to illustrate a biblical truth, to capture the audience's attention, to clarify a point, or to draw a conclusion this book will help you find it. With the right example, you can turn hostile skeptics into interested participants and turn people around spiritually.

Truth made clear through the use of just the right illustration, anecdote, story, or quotation is applied more quickly and remembered long. - Charles Swindoll

Publisher's note: This book was previously published as The Tale of the Tardy Oxcart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Help from a master servant of the Master April 8 2006
By Walter G. Fitzsimons - Published on Amazon.com
We all need a good story. We need to people our exposition with the concrete. The listeners hope to hear the words "there was this man that... or I am told that ...", knowing that the preacher is using a storehouse of wisdom. Preaching is not about one's own special story, but about clearly and in an entertaining manner telling our shared experience and needs. This type of book is a must for all who preach or speak.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completly Amazing Resource Feb. 17 2009
By B. Coates - Published on Amazon.com
As soon as I received this book in the mail, i started randomly opening the book up, pointing my finger in it and reading what I picked and everyone illustration i opened too was awsome and I had to share each with everyone in my house. Every Illustration is amazing, thought provoking, a lot are very funny, some are very serious. This is a great tool for Pastors, Lay Ministers, People who love to write (books, bloggs, letters, etc.), Illustrations bring the point home. That's why pastors normally open with one and close with one in there sermons, it's how Jesus taught (in parables), This Book is a must have for just about anyone but especially those in ministry. I like to write and I post monthly bloggs [...] and I will be using this book to help me draw together my bloggs and I really believe they will help me knock my messages out of the park. I can't wait for my next book to come in 'Tony Evans book of Illustrations'. God's Peace, Your Brother in Christ -Brian
