Product Description

Review

"'MacGregor (aka Sherrilyn Kenyon) creates a splendid, magical world of knights, demons and wizards -a place where all is possible, from flying dragons to dark spells, and a place where love triumphs as demon and merlin marry (a la Charmed or Buffy). Savour the romance, but also the delicious sense of humour MacGregor brings to what could be a completely dark tale. You'll be waiting eagerly for the next installment in the Lords of Avalon series. All hail a shining voice in historical paranormal romance!' - Romantic Times" --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Book Description

The new king of Camelot wears no shining armor: Arthur and his knights have fallen and a new king rules.

In the darkest forest...

A scared, forsaken youth has become the most powerful -- and feared -- man in the world. Ruthless and unrestrained, Kerrigan has long ceased to be human.

In the heart of London...

A spirited peasant mired in drudgery, Seren dreams of becoming her own woman, but never expects that by fleeing her fate, she will meet her destiny.

Their worlds are forever changed...

Kerrigan's goal is simple: barter or kill Seren to claim Arthur's Round Table. Yet she is the one person who holds no fear of him. More than that, her nobility sparks something foreign inside him. In his nether realm, kindness is weakness and a king who harbors any sort of compassion loses his throne.

For countless centuries, Kerrigan has lived alone in the shadows. Now Seren's courage has forced him into the lightthat will bring either salvation to both of them...or death.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not A Fan, Mar 8 2007
This review is from: Sword Of Darkness (Mass Market Paperback)
Since giving this zero stars is not an option, I had no choice but to give this novel 1 star. I have read a lot of both fantasy and romance, and have found myself choosing my next read based on the amazon.ca reviews. When I read the good reviews for this book, the first in a new series, I was thrilled. However, when I recieved this book and dove eagerly into it, I was to say the least disappointed.

I have never read anything by Kinley MacGregor or Sherrilyn Kenyon before, so I can't compare it to any of her other books. What I can compare this to is all of their other novels that I have read and cherished throughout my life. I just found this novel so random. Interactions between characters were jerky and repetitive. When in the first few chapters Kerrigan's eyes flash like flames, I rolled my eyes. When they transported to the future and rolled down the high-way in a getaway RV, I wanted to tear the book to shreds with my teeth.

4.0 out of 5 stars A New Series By A Talented Author!, May 26 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Sword Of Darkness (Mass Market Paperback)
Kerrigan is the king of Camelot and Darkness. He is ruthless and cares for nothing until he captures a spirited peasant who is unlike anything he's ever known. Despite the fact that her sassy attitude speaks to a part of him he didn't know existed, he will do what he set out to do. He will either kill Seren or barter her away in order to claim King Arthur's Round Table. What he's not counting on is Seren waking his long dead heart or makes him think his life could be better.

Seren has no idea what her future holds. She dreams of one day being a freewoman and weaving her wonderful fabric for sale to the nobles. Imagine her surprise when she is taken by a handsome knight and then forced to face the fact that Merlin and Arthur aren't a made up characters and that her life is directly tied to Camelot. Will she be able to accept her destiny and Kerrigan as he is or will she turn her back on her chance at happiness?

Ms. MacGregor's latest series is off to a grand start with "Sword of Darkness." Ms. MacGregor has taken the Arthurian legend and given it a twist making this a unique series that I eagerly look forward to continuing. Kerrigan is an anti-hero and she has done a wonderful job of turning this character into a hero the reader will care about. This demonstrates the talent of this writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sword of Darkness, April 12 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Sword Of Darkness (Mass Market Paperback)
I couldn't put this book down. Seren is a peasant girl, a weaver, who is summoned to Avalon where she is to bear the next Merlin. She thinks the knights sent to find her are mad and is rescued by Kerrigan, a knight who helps her escape from them. He takes her where Morgen le Fey waits in her evil kingdom. Morgen is pleased with the unexpected turn of events. Kerrigan it turns out is an evil king.

The tale takes a lovely sweet girl into the darkness where her courage brings light to a man who has never known honesty or compassion.

This is the first of Kinley MacGregor's books that I have read and I'm looking forward to reading more of them... soon!!! The writing was fluid. The tension was nicely balanced with humor and compassion. Though there were truly evil characters the book was not unnerving. The steamy scenes were, um, steamy.
