I bought this steamer as a Christmas gift for myself just after the holidays. I was starting a new job and figured it would save me a ton of time instead of ironing my dress shirts. Well, it didn't. Its true that it's a whole lot easier than ironing, but it doesn't get the same result. It's more convenient in that it takes less space than an ironing board, but you'll spend a lot of time trying to get wrinkles out. It works best if the clothes are still a little bit damp.

Anyways, I started having problems with it a short while ago. It would beep as if there was no water and then it would turn off. I noticed that one of the screws located inside the intake chamber was completely corroded, while the other one was fine. but thought nothing of it. A google search suggested that others were having the same problem. The solution, supposedly, is to fill it with vinegar and leave it overnight. I tried it but to no avail. Upon closer investigation, the screw in the intake chamber was actually so corroded that it had broken, disconnecting one of the wires on the inside. The thing still beeps, but that's about it!

Long story short, I spent about $100 on this piece of junk 7 months ago and I've gotten a fair bit of use out of it, but the quality of the components as others have suggested is pretty, pretty crap. I would definitely not buy this product again, even for half the price it is being sold for. If I had to do it again, which I guess I do, I would either buy a steam iron or a more expensive, but better quality garment steamer.

There are a lot of things to like about this steamer: the auto shut off and shut off when the tank is empty help keep peace of mind. The clamps for hanging pants are nice but they require a lot of force to open. The on/off switch is the real deal killer. I've own my tfal steamer for only a few months and it broke already! You have to press and hold the steamer setting to turn it off. It no longer turns off after pressing and holding. I have to unplug the unit to turn it off.

Anyway, don't buy until they improve this design.

This is a good alternative to ironing. Works OK on shirts and excellent on pants.

Some things i noticed:

PRO:

1. Works much better without the hanger attached.
2. Water tank is large... lasts a couple of weeks easy
3. Folds down so it is easy to store

CON:

1. The wheels on the bottom are not that good. It is very hard to wheel around, especially with a full tank
2. It tripped my breaker. I have to replace my 15A with a 20A to avoid this.

I would recommend for sure

I got this streamer because of a friends recommendation. The first time I picked it up from store I had to return it. It was an open box and turned out to be defective. The second time I bought it, it lasted me 3 months!!! I came to the conclusion that it couldn't be moved or else it would break. I couldn't return it so they allowed me to swap it for a new one. That one latest purchased latest me for half a year or so. It recently started beeping on any setting and I can't get it to start.

The steamer when it worked did a good job. It had 5 steam levels and steamed clothes nicely. I also liked that it was taller so you didn't feel like you had to bend over to steam your clothes.

All of this however is irrelevant because the steamer is unreliable. For the money, it's not worth it. I bought it when it was $150 in price. Now I wouldn't even pay $50 for it. Waste of money. Stay away.

As far as design mechanics, a steamer should be one of the most reliable small appliances in your home... it's an electric kettle with a hose. Unfortunately, t-fal has botched this one, badly. The features on this model are a great idea, but they don't work consistently. It's basically poorly designed, and of poor quality. All 'show', no 'go'.

This thing has a mind of it's own, and is always shutting off for no reason.

The plastic in the nozzle/handle is very cheap, and will likely leak/break quickly.

The top of the garment stand is badly designed. It has a hanger form to hold items like blazers & sweaters. That's great, and looks nice, but the telescopic rods on which it sits are SO flimsy. Most of my clothes will be steamed on a hanger, and put away on that same hanger - simple and efficient. However, there are no spots to place a hanger or two for steaming. Major oversight. Dumb.

I've used a real commercial/professional steamer in a retail setting, so I've got something of a different quality level to compare this to. Perhaps that's a little unfair, but I'd be happy with a more basic design and higher quality.

It's also rather large and bulky considering that the capacity of the water tank is pretty small.

Disappointing.

I have just discovered that kind of way to iron clothes and I have to say it does the work...most of the time...
For hard wrinkles, you must still use a standard iron. However for most regular wrinkles, and if you are not too demanding, you can easily remove them with this steamer with ease of use.
To resume: a good complement to an iron + board set.
