One of the best movies you've NEVER seen!, Dec 6 2011
This review is from: TAE GUK GI-BROTHER HOOD OF WAR (Blu-Ray) (Blu-ray)
I've yet to meet a North American who has heard about this film (without me telling them about it first). It hasn't got much exposure on this side of the ocean, but did very well internationally, especially in Korea (obviously). If you like war movies, you can't go wrong with Tae Guk Gi. This movie shows human nature at its best and at its worst. It's a story of epic proportions with excellent character development. The musical score really suits the film and goes a long way in evoking the mood. This movie is moving, don't be surprised if you find yourself fighting the urge to cry.
In a nutshell the film is about two brothers who are forced into fighting in the Korean war and the conflicts they face with the war and between each other. That's probably not that helpful, but I think it's better to go in pretty blind, and I'd hate to give anything away. However, if you don't like subtitles (I know some of you don't), you won't like this film.
I own the DVD and the Blu-Ray. The DVD has an English Audio dub track, however I don't recommend it as the acting and translation do not do it justice. The English subtitles on the DVD and Blu-Ray are great (except I noticed one typo on the Blu-Ray version). The quality of the Blu-Ray is far superior to that of the DVD (as is with most high budget action/drama films; however in some places the Blu-Ray is too good and can be revealing of CGI planes, buildings in backgrounds, etc.
If you're thinking about getting it, but don't know what to expect (especially since Amazon doesn't have an image available), you should stop worrying and just get it. I ordered both my copies through Amazon. This film won't disappoint.
