Book Description

There are many Old Testament Hebrew lexicons available today, yet none offer the accuracy, user-friendliness, or affordable price as the single volume Old Testament Parsing Guide. Formerly published in a highly regarded two volume set, this new edition of Old Testament Parsing Guide seeks to offer help to Hebrew students by addressing their major need- the verbal system. With newly added vowel points, Old Testament Parsing Guide is easier to read and a more valuable Old Testament translation tool than ever.

About the Author

Todd S. Beall is a professor of Old Testament studies at Capital Bible Seminary in Lanham, Maryland. After earning the Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Princeton University, and Th.M degree in Old Testament from Capital Bible Seminary, he was awarded the Ph.D degree in Biblical Studies from the Catholic University of America. He is a member of the National Association of the Professors of Hebrew, the Evangelical Theological Society, and the Society of Biblical Literature.

3.0 out of 5 stars great tool, but a word of caution to beginners..., Jun 11 2004
This review is from: OLD TESTAMENT PARSING GUIDE (Paperback)
The toughest thing for beginners of Biblical Hebrew is not so much the syntax, but the morphology. This volume is what some experts may consider a "crutch"-an otherwise helpful book that can have serious repercussions on a beginner. A word of caution to beginners in reading BH: Do not purchase this book until you have had about 3 semesters or more of graduate-level biblical Hebrew. Why? Because this work, as I state above, can be a "crutch" to new-comers in that it parses every single verb and participle in the Hebrew OT, thereby giving the student instantaneous access to a skill that should probably be attained via arduous study. It will pay off in the long run to be able to parse a verb on one's own without this parsing tool. One reason I have it is for checking my work, and also for it's relatively quick one, sometimes two-word English definitions that accompany each entry. I recommend the book for those who have a firm grasp of reading Biblical Hebrew for its quick-reference capabilities, but I recommend it with some reservation for novices.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing reference!, April 3 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: OLD TESTAMENT PARSING GUIDE (Paperback)
A truly amazing reference for any Hebrew student. This book lists _every single_ verb in the entire Hebrew Bible and breaks it down according to its aspects. I can't even imagine all the work that went into preparing this book -- but it certainly saved me a significant amount of time in my studies!

3.0 out of 5 stars Worst book binding ever encountered, Nov 30 2009
By A Mature Reader "Amazon purchaser" - Published on Amazon.com

This review is from: OLD TESTAMENT PARSING GUIDE (Paperback)
This is a fine reference for Hebrew Bible verb parsing, but the book binding is absolutely terrible. The book does not stay open and the pages fall off when one tries to keep it stay open. A new and better binding edition (possibly hard cover) is sorely needed because this book should serve as a lifelong companion to the Hebrew Bible for non-scholars to read the Old Testament in the original language. Rating of the book is the average of 5 (for the content) plus 1 (for binding) divided by 2 equaling 3 stars.

Addition to my previous comment.
Be aware, Buyers! I have contacted the publisher about the poor quality biding problem, and they don't care about the concern. You may be spending more money than bargained for, because of the problem, if you want to keep using the book - I did!
