Product Description

In 1970 The Moody Blues were at their creative and commercial peak. After reinventing themselves from their R&B roots to a much more sophisticated sound, between 1967 and 1970 they released five albums, four of which hit the Top 5 in the UK with two of them going to No.1. They enjoyed similar success in the USA where four of the albums hit the Top 20 and the other was just outside. At the end of August 1970, shortly after the release of their album "A Question Of Balance", The Moody Blues took to the stage of the Isle Of Wight Festival in front of an audience estimated at over half a million. This Blu-ray makes that performance available to be seen in high definition for the first time.

HASH(0xa92acb40) out of 5 stars Surprisingly Enjoyable July 19 2010

After having listened to several live Moody Blues recordings, I didn't have very high hopes for this DVD, but I've enjoyed other Isle of Wight Festival DVDs, including Jethro Tull: Nothing Is Easy Live at the Isle of Wight 1970, the Who Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 (Special Edition), and Jimi Hendrix - Blue Wild Angel (Live at the Isle of Wight), and I really enjoy the Moody's work on their core seven albums. So I gave this DVD a shot and was surprised by how enjoyable it turned out to be. Despite the inclusion of stock footage that seems to show up in all the Isle of Wight DVDs, and the fact that some of the songs are fragmentary, and interspersed with present-day interview segments, in the end, I still enjoyed the show. The main block of the concert is uninterrupted, the song selection is great, and the stripped-down, live arrangements were well performed. Plus it's great to watch the (then) young band having a good time. This DVD is certainly better than the massively overdubbed The Moody Blues - The Lost Performance: Live In Paris '70 or the over-produced, well-past-their-prime Moody Blues: Lovely to See You (2005).

I just finished watching this DVD and I am overwhelmed. This is a MUST for any Moody Blues fan .. for any music fan. It's put together wonderfully. The footage of the live performance in 1970 .. the interviews... the splicing together of the future concerts... awesome.
Two words... buy it. I love it.

HASH(0xa92b845c) out of 5 stars Your search is over Dec 22 2012

This a magical performance caught on film from the Moody Blues. They producers did an excellent job restoring both the sound and film, very clear and life like. The set list is my favorite of all the other moody dvds I have and I get a real sence of being there when I watch this Blu-Ray. If you are a fan you owe it to yourself to pick this up, the price is affortable and you get a lot of bang for your buck.

HASH(0xa92b87a4) out of 5 stars The Moody Blues then........ July 26 2014

I really debated between 4 & 5 stars on this one. Not the best visual picture, rather grainy and not the best sound. It's old but, it's the Moody Blues, but look at the title, it's 1970. This group stands alone in their own category. You simply can't compare them to any other group. Think about it, how many others, group or solo artists, have you heard doing any Moody Blues songs? Within a few seconds of hearing any of their songs, you know immediately, AH, it's the Moody Blues. It has that sound, that Moody Blues sound, that has yet to duplicated. Their music is timeless. Their lyrics are incredibly real, thought provoking and often times prophetic. Spanning five decades and they never get old. As new generations continue to find them, once a Moody Blues fan, it's forever.
