Why couldn't codemasters stick with Dirt 1 format?,

I did not enjoy Dirt 3 as much as Dirt 1. Here's a list of things that I didn't like:1. You see the Ford Fiesta on the cover? You'll be driving a lot of them. About 1/3 of the available vehicles in D3 are Ford. For most races, you receive more points (to further your career) for driving a Ford Fiesta than for driving a Subaru or a BMW. 2. After almost every single race, the in-game announcer compliments your driving and suggests you put in on youtube. This becomes incredibly annoying after hearing it the nth time. 3. Not much vehicle selection. Although there are a number of vehicles available, to get the most points to further your career, the game feels like for most races, you race the same Ford Fiesta, Subaru Impreza, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and Audi Sport Quattro. The buggy and the truck races have fictional vehicles that are all the same. 4. Like the other user stated, you're driving the same tracks (I think there's 4 of them) in Norway, Detroit, Kenya and Finland. More specifically, different parts of these tracks over and over again. 5. Gymkhana events. Why? This was supposed to be a rally game. It makes little sense to add a section dealing with drifting specific cars (yup some Ford Fiestas again) in back of a factory. 6. And finally, downloadable vehicles. Why did my new copy of D3 come with a code to redeem a couple more cars from on-line? Why not have it as a complete whole package on the disc? Despite these flaws, the game manages to do a couple things well. (1) Each race you will get the chance to modify your vehicle (height, brake system, etc.). This will make a huge improvement in your timing. (2) Most cars feel solid enough and handle okay; the flashback is awesome too. If there's a Dirt 4 in the works, I hope codemasters go back to the basics of Dirt 1. Keep the game simple: more rally cars, more tracks (not the same track cut and diced in 10 different sections), no events that have nothing to do with rallies. IMHO Dirt 3 deserves only 2 stars.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The graphics are awesome, and they toned down the "dude" stuff from DiRT 2. The cars are many and varied, and drive very nicely. But the content is lacking. The rally stages are numerous, but short and repetitive (each country actually has just one course with an alternate route in the middle, and this is sliced and diced to make 8 overlapping stages). They are also not very technical, as they are reused for the high-speed trailblazer events (think hill climb without the hill). One thing unique to this game is the gymkhana events, which people seem to either love or hate. Note that aside from the tutorial and first gymkhana event, you can complete the career mode without ever doing any gymkhana. You also have rallycross, head-2-head (super special stages), truck and buggy races (but only one truck or buggy to choose from). It is not bad, overall, but if they could blend the tracks of DiRT 1 with the graphics and car models of DiRT 3 it would be great!
