About the Author
Kimberly Schlegel is a graduate of Southern Methodist University with an Honors degree in Art History. In 1999, Kimberly started a company, RSVP - Soiree Party Rentals, that advises others when planning the most important events in their young adult lives. Kimberly has traveled extensively, visiting such exotic locales as Turkey, Bali, Hong Kong, Italy, and Greece often providing her with inspiration for her events. She currently lives in Dallas, Texas.

I have many many books on similar topics and recieved this one as a gift for Christmas this past year and after cracking it open, I REFUSED to put it down! The text is lovely and draws you into the moments in each party or luncheon featured, but more than that, I found the photographs and the ideas for each party were divine. I have already begun planning my next few parties and plan to do a version of her family tree dinner from her parents anniversary dinner. This book is beautifully written and even just beautiful to allow your mind to wander through the pages. A MUST HAVE!

Whereas the author's previous book "The Pleasure of Your Company' may be over the top and seem a bit impossible for the average hostess, this book is more realistic. It's chocked full of ideas for tablesettings for a wide variety of occassions, settings and budgets. It also has the personal touch in that many of the tablesettings were planned for family events or parties honoring close friends.

This is a beautiful book of ideas for table settings for any occasion from the usual holidays to engagement, anniversary, and baby shower parties; casual brunches to formal dinners. The color photos are gorgeous and show dozens of ideas for decorating a table for entertaining whether it be for an intimate gathering or a large dinner party, indoors or outside. Some ideas are simple yet sophisticated with a single bouquet of flowers to show off beautiful china. Others are elaborate and sometimes surprising such as the one that features dressed manequins posed in the middle of a large table.
While this is mostly a book of pictures that shows the overall effect of tablesettings as well as the smaller details, the author does include tips and advice throughout. I especially appreciated that she writes on the topic of manners and etiquette because those things never are out of style and are appropriate for every occasion. Also included are tips on invitations, seating of guests, and the common rules of etiquette for dinner parties.
Many of the ideas in this book are more formal than I personally would use, but they still inspire me to try creative table settings that fit with my personality and entertaining style. This would be a wonderful gift for a newlywed or anyone who enjoys entertaining.
