The Targus USB Numeric Keypad works great with just one little quirk - sometimes the first keystroke acts to "wake" it up and doesn't display a number.

I bought this product because I needed actual keypad keys. Some software distinguishes between * (asterisk) and Keypad/Numpad Multiply (*), which my CAD software does. Unfortunately, the genius that designed this does not have this keypad send keypad multiply (*). Instead, it just sends ascii asterisk * so this is TOTALLY USELESS as a KEYPAD.

I love my keypad, which I bought for data entry. I chose this brand because it was affordable and compatible with both my iMac and PC netbook. I am impressed with the quality and don't mind the key positions. In fact, for me, the relation of the tab, backspace and enter keys are perfect for quick data entry--so much so that I even plug it in to use on my PC desktop in place of it's standard keyboard! I just purchased my keypad, so I can't speak on the durability of the product, but it was a great investment for me!

The Targus Numeric Keypad I recently purchased works well enough. I have these criticisms: the symbols (like the *, +, etc) painted on the keys are really too small. The painted numbers and symbols should be BOLD print. Also the paint easily rubs off. Since I use this device with a laptop at varying locations and lighting conditions it is not always possible to 'touch type', i.e. depress keys without looking. Even the tiny little letters on my phone keyboard are easier to see because they are bold and highly contrasted.
Perhaps the next generation of this unit will have these improvements.
