Please remove the review I wrote entitled "An excellent value for the money" for the Lyle tarot set. I looked and looked and cannot find another way to contact you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for the money, Dec 12 2004
By A Customer
This is an odd pairing. Each by itself is well worth buying, the two certainly do not go together.
The book is by Jane Lyle, a well know tarot deck creator and author. The book uses Rider-Waite meanings and mostly illustrates the book with cards from the Rider Waite deck. She does include references to other decks and traditions and it is relatively inclusive for such a short book. I thought it was excellent.

The cards do not match the book, being a Marseille set. The cards are not named anywhere in the book or on the box that I could see. They are a photo-reproduction of the Camoin Bicentennial (Thunder Bay Press edition) printed using the original 1760 Nicolas Conver TdM woodplates. The colour scheme used for the 1960 printing was the colour scheme used in 1880. The original of this deck is virtually unattainable and the opportunity to own this deck at such a reasonable price is unparalleled.
I thought the cards were well produced. The laminate is matte and the card stock is sturdy. There are tiny points left on the top of each card from the cutting process, however that is fairly common.
As I said, two very worthy items, but they make odd bed-fellows.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not all that great..., Jan 17 2004
By A Customer
The book is good but the cards are terrible! The art isn't even close to that of other decks and when reading the cards it becomes difficult to tell if the wands and swords are reversed or not.If you get this set,get it for the book, not the cards. My suggestion is to get at least one other deck,if your a beginner at tarot though you need to be very careful when selecting a deck, look for one you like thats hopefully a beginner's deck.If you buy a difficult to read tarot deck you'll regret it...

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the cost
I had read a few reviews of Jane Lyle's work and remembered that she was generally highly recommended. I concur. The book that accompanies this set is worth the price tag. Read more
