Another wonderful book from Tasha Tudor, Oct 28 2009

I admire Tasha Tudor and her philosophy of passing on the tradition of creating with your hands. In this case it is creating one of a kind gifts for many occasions. The book is easy to read, the directions well written, and of course the illustrations are wonderful. Of course they are, they are from Tasha Tudor!

Charming, but Falls Short of Expectations, Mar 18 2012
By MW - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Tasha Tudor's Old Fashioned Gifts (Hardcover)
First off, as I should have gathered from the cover, the majority of the illustrations in this book are by Linda Allen. Not that there's anything wrong with her art (even if I find her "faces" eerie) -- it was just disappointing because I prefer Tasha Tudor's style, and bought this book because of her name.
There are 37 projects in here, just under half of which are recipes. The projects are cute, obviously with an old-fashioned charm, and nicely varied. Absolute beginners should note that instructions for the sewing projects are not very detailed. If you need minutely described steps or precise patterns, you will have trouble producing pieces that match the illustrations. However, everything looks simple enough for anyone with some experience.
Some of the projects have brief introductions, and I wish the authors could've written one for each, whether it's a crafting tip or a bit of history. The foreword also sounds like a long table of contents rather than actual writing... like the "articles" written for SEO optimization you see online today.
Yes, this is a crafting book, but most crafting books/magazines out there have more written content than this!
This book is still fine for inspiration or bare-bone instructions; it's quaint and would be perfect on a country chic bookshelf. If you are at all picky or have a budget to follow, though, I recommend any of the other Tasha Tudor "lifestyle" books.
