This is a truly wonderful DVD. It brings back memories of watching a relative do this kind of sewing, and whose work was proof that one does not REALLY need a sewing machine to produce beautiful clothing! (Of course, I personally would not go so far as to not have a sewing machine! and Ms. Schaeffer explains that she does combine the best of both worlds.
Ms. Shaeffer starts with the true BASICS of sewing, such as the hand stitches and other extra little touches that add a special touch to any project, and which are absolutely indispensable to couture sewing. (Also some other techniques such as how to join lace by hand, etc.) But equally important, she also gives examples of how and where they are used. This is a companion to the latest edition of her book on couture sewing. (I always felt the last edition was a just a *little* skimpy on the diagrams.)
I don't usually like spending money on DVD's as they are usually a disappointment, but I think this one is worth it.

Great video, wonderfully filmed. This video has step by step techniques. I love it that she explains where and why to use each technique. She also shows samples of garments which utilize the techniques she is teaching. It is easy to practice along with her on basic elements of hand sewing.
