This analog candy, jelly, and deep fry thermometer for the serious chef features accurate temperature control, easy readability, and commercial quality and reliability. The large stainless steel dial face is easy to read and has coloured zones indicating the desired temperature ranges for confection and deep frying, as well as marks for candy soft ball, firm ball, hard ball, soft crack, and hard crack points. An adjustable clip allows the thermometer to be attached to the side of a pan.

The Dial size is 3 inches, making this thermometer easy to read from a Distance.
It's a commercial grade and mine is accurate. The dial image is split into 2 primary sections;
Confection zone (Green) and Deep Fry Zone (Yellow) (not shown too good in the picture above.)
It also shows 5 cooking type imprints which makes it easy for the novice who can't remember
temperature ranges. This thermometer carries a lifetime warranty. Any issues such as the prior poster
had can simply send the thermometer back to Taylor and they will issue a replacement.
Taylor makes great product, I have about 8 different types of thermometers made by Taylor because of their no hassle replacement policy. You get what you pay for and for me their product is superb quality.
To get an accurate reading you cannot allow the tip to touch the pan -- this is not a surface thermometer.
The temperature will always vary between surface and contents irregardless whether your cooking on a stove, in an oven, or on a BBQ. The thermometer tip should be at least 2 1/2 inches into the liquid and the stem should not touch the pan. For that purpose a stainless steel "pan clip" is included. This is a Candy/Deep Fry thermometer, DO NOT use in an oven. I gave it a 4 Star because I would have liked seeing the Deep Fry Zone in red rather than Yellow.

Checking this thermometer in boiling water "out of the box", it read 207 degrees F. The needle on my thermometer is thicker than the one pictured, making it a bit more difficult to read the temperature (markings are at 5 degree intervals).

I purchased this thermometer for use while deep frying and candy making. The first time I used this thermometer I ended up burning the oil because I was shallow frying and the probe apparently must be submerged approximately 2 inches so the true temp never registered. On the plus side, the dial is easy to read.
