"Taylor's Guides are the best, most authoritative guides on the market." (Garden Design )

Product Description

This Taylor's Guide sorts out the best heirloom vegetables and tells readers where to find them. These varieties, at least fifty years old, have usually been preserved by regional, ethnic, or family groups, although some, like Golden Bantam corn, are still widely popular today.

This review is from: Taylor's Guide to Heirloom Vegetables: A Complete Guide to the Best Historic and Ethnic Varieties (Paperback)
With over 200 color photos (which is very good) and descriptions and history on over 500 varieties of heirloom vegetables, it's a good one to have on hand. Also includes brief sections on how grow, seed saving, pests, etc for each family of vegetable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read, Lovely Photos, May 15 2010

As an organic gardener and lover of vintage, especially within my garden beds, I found this book most helpful. It gives just the amount of info needed, not too much to read, but crucial info even for the novice gardener. I like that it lists a few companies where one can purchase heirloom seeds and I found that most are still current despite the 1996 copyright date. The photos of the dry beans are especially lovely. Combine this book with Mel Bartholomew's Square Foot Gardening and Patricia Lanza's Lasagna Gardening and you will be set.
