I recently took a short Photoshop Elements course and purchased this Teach Yourself Visually on the recommendation of the instructor. I have used Elements 3 for years and just upgraded to 8. I liked the clarity of the photos and the layout of the chapters but felt the explanations needed to go a step further in some examples. Some techniques could have used further examples.
A very good reference manual for an experienced Elements user - but I wouldn't recommend it for a new user of the program.

I still find myself searching the internet for some of the questions I have. The tutorials on Adobe are pretty good too. I just like to have step by step instructions in front of me and this was a pretty good help but very simple. I wanted something that taught me to do some of the more difficult things but this was more of a photoshop of dummies. It's a fivestar book for a super beginner never used any photoshop of anykind before person.

The thing I like most about this book is that you don't have to wade through a lot of information you don't necessarily want to get to the valuable stuff. I can easily look for step-by-step instructions for the specific task I want to learn. The layout makes it really easy to find what you're looking for. Great book!
