Debbie Miler has such an amazing outlook on teaching! My reading program was completely changed because of her books. It is a must for all teachers!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Feb. 22 2010
I am a BIG Debbie Miller fan. I have read Reading for Meaning over and over from cover to cover and was able to use it in the classroom. I didn't find that there were many practical ideas-there was more belief than action. I was so looking forward to her next book packing the same punch but it just didn't do that for me. Sorry Debbie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! May 30 2009
By Cheryl Sostarich - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I ordered this book because the primary teachers at our school decided we needed to be more consistent with teaching vocabulary. We started a book club and decided to read Reading With Meaning. As I was ordering that book I saw this book and ordered it. I've been teaching for 20 years and this book got me to thinking about a different way to get my kids excited about thinking of our classroom as being part of a community. I love the ideas for using manners and modeling the type of behavior and thinking I want to see in our classroom.
Can't wait to try it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Aligning beliefs with practice March 3 2009
By Lori Jackson - Published on Amazon.com
With her gentle, loving tone, Miller reminds us of what really counts n the classroom with a discussion of the importance of identifying core beliefs about literacy education. She examines her own reflective process and discusses the importance of the role of reflecting on classroom practice and planning with the goal of alignment. Practicing, as always, her own beliefs, the remainder of the book is organized around Miller's own key beliefs with each chapter illustrating those beliefs through powerful classroom stories. As a coach, I see so much potential in the this book--not just for new teachers, but as part of a discussion that allows us to begin with articulating who we are and what we believe in. Well done, Debbie, well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Veterans and New Teachers Jan. 3 2009
By Shamus - Published on Amazon.com
I loved Debbie's first book and found this new one to be just as thoughtful. Her friendly voice comes through as a reminder to all teachers that we need to stop and reflect on our beliefs and practices and be strategic about our teaching. I found her "Something to Try" section useful and it encouraged me to give thought to areas I may have not have believed needed changing or rethinking.I highly recommend it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for new teachers Dec 27 2008
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
I bought this book because I loved her other book. I was disappointed. This book is geared to new teachers. As a teacher of 13 years it didn't have any new that I haven't heard before in seminars or other books. If you know someone who is a first year teacher, it's perfect for them. Otherwise, save your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book Ever! Sept. 11 2011
By Lisakay - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book has tremendous ideas that you could put to use right in the classroom immediately. I am a third grade teacher and I can use these ideas with just a little adaptation here and there. This book has lessons you could start with day 1. It is also so easy to read. Not a book that you dread picking up, but one that you can't put down. I am never getting rid of my copy. I will hold on to it for my entire teaching career.
