4.0 out of 5 stars angst laden contemporary romance, Aug 9 2008
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Teaming Up (Mass Market Paperback)
Part of the famous Murphy NASCAR family, Kim became a highly regarded research scientist working at Booth Labs. However, her doctor tells her she has kidney problems that she must not ignore.. Feeling healthier than the horse that won the Derby, she plans to do nothing until she finds her list of 10 things to do before she dies in her family's Charlotte home.

Kim decides to complete the list which includes dating and dumping a jock. She chooses NASCAR Crew chief Wade Abraham to help her complete those items. He is more than willing to accommodate her. As they fall in love, he remains in the dark as does her family as to why she implemented her dying list of ten.

In spite of her family and his job, NASCAR plays a minor support role in this angst laden contemporary romance as Kim facing death decides to complete her list with Wade being her chosen one. The story line is driven totally around the oval by Kim as she engages the audience who pray that a compatible kidney is found in time. Abby Gaines provides a deep tale starring a young brilliant woman living her life to the fullest as she begins counting down her life and her list.

3.0 out of 5 stars not bad, not good...just eh, April 11 2010
By Ashlyn "ash" - Published on Amazon.com
The premise for this story sounded really entertaining and enjoyable, but the end result ended up being blah with a side of eh.

Kim is a genius, she graduated high school when she was around 15y/o was in college after that and now is one of the top scientists in the south. But with all of her smarts she hasn't been able to live her life, she never got to act out as a teenager or go to parties and be a kid. Now barely 33y/o she is dying, and since her blood type is so unique she may not get a transplant before its her time. Now that her life is on the line she found a list she wrote when she was a teenager, and she plans to accomplish every single thing before she dies.

Wade, being the oldest in the 7 kids in his family, became the man of the house when his father died. Then he worked to help his mother raise his younger siblings. For years he put his dream of being a crew chief on the shelf to be the man of his family, but now that their all grown up he has his sights set on one thing. Getting the promotion. And when he gets the chance to get some points with the boss he'll do anything it takes.

The premise for the story was intriguing, but over all the author wasn't able to develop the characters/plot enough to make it all work. Kim comes off as being too naive( i get she's a genius, but she has no social skills. i.e. think of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory TV show but worse and not as likable) and then theres the relationship between the two main characters. They dont really fit together till the end and during the most of the book Wade only tells himself that he's using Kim.

Overall i think whether you like the book or not depends on what your reading preference is, the book wasn't horrible but it definitely wasn't worth almost $5.
