I really don't know why some people are complaining about this cd. I read reviews, and some people are calling PTW sellouts or that this album isnt real poison the well...i think these people are on crackballs to say the least. First off, anyone who has listened to "opposite of december" and "tear from the red" more than once can clearly see that their sound has not changed all that much, yet i find "tear from the red" is a much tighter record. The same formula is present on both cd's but "TFTR" definetly represents a much more focused sound. Also, to clear up the confusion, the song "horns and tails" is an acoustic "dashboard confessional" type, slow song that is completly different from the rest of the record and while, yes, it may not be for everyone, the track does not have to be listened to....really...you can skip it...cool eh...
Also, this band does not sound like incubus, the beginning of track 5 sounds like the "wish you were here" intro for about 8 seconds and thats it. So in retrospect, all the "flaws" that people complain about in other reviews are really not part of the record all that much, they account for about 3 minutes of the record..the rest is all classic poison the well. you really don't hear people complain about the other 8 songs on the album, beacsue they all rip! Its one thing to notlike poison the well, but to say they sold out is really stupid...really really stupid....go get this album, its excellent.

I bought this album before the opposite of december and even though i like the first one better this is still a very good buy. My favorite songs are turn down eliot rings form carona and horns and tails... yes. I always liked balance of hard and melodic....im so sick of all these narrow minded hardcore fans. if a band does not change styles...well even the deepest pool stagnates without action. i kind of miss some of the faster songs. but the emotional element of the music is alot more present.. vocals have improved greatly. and i like the touch on karsey street. its distrubing as hell...the lyrics are very thought provoking as well. i refuse to use the term emo when talking about poison the well. emo is syrupy music with sometimes monotonous vocals... that really arent so emotional. and the whole fashion thing is such a joke. if you want emotion listen to shun or glassjaw or dredg bjork or... poison the well. these kids clearly have it together and its not hard to see that they listen to a wide variety of music. i hear deftones all over the riffs. but since deftones couldnt think of them poison the well is at an advantage. while having influence they are still their own biggest influence and it is really hard to find a band that sounds much like them. all im saying is that this cd is great. while not having all the tempo changes that opposite of december had. it has its moments. i really enjoyed how the lyrics to horns and tails were negative and the song seemed almost playful.... it didnt even have a chorus now thats good song writing. the best way to describe poison the well is like incubus that has been in hell for the longest time... theyre like someone who smiles at you and hides a knife behind their back. in truth the only real let down is the length..on both albums.Read more ›

well i guess like many others i expected a little bit more out of this cd. dont get me wrong this is a great cd, but the songs just dont grab me as well as Opposite of December and Distance... did. songs like "moment over exaggerate" and "turn down elliot" catch the old, heavy sound that poison the well had with their previous release. but some songs are treading dangerous waters, such as "horns and tails" has sort of a dashboard confessional sound to it,... ive heard that poison the well is planning to sound a lot like this in the future, which is in some ways good, but in other ways bad.
the music behind it all has lost the technical sound like the previous masterpieces that poison the well has. and i dont think that poison the well is maturing either, they have always had that melodic side in them, in this release they just show it a lot more, i get sick of people saying "they are maturing" becuz they arent they are just adding a lot more melody in the mix. this cd isnt bad, but i feel like poison the well couldve done a lot better with some stuff. if you are a really big fan of Opposite and Distance, this cd might be a bit dissapointing to you, but all in all this is another great release from the well

After following Poison the well for a little while now, and being a huge fan of their 'Opposite' record, not to mention their earlier EP, it was nice to see that they had made a few changes. At first sound, there really is quite alot of difference, and it seems quite unlike their other records. This is not a bad thing, their new songs are quite mature, and much more diverse as far as the record is concerned. I wont pick out the stand out tracks as many people do, because i think in a few months time, the tracks i liked the least on this record, will be the tracks i like the most .
This is a 5 star album and i have no doubts about it. Touching, hardcore, warm and cold, all at the same time.
Just like to point out the fool 'mikenashvili', who gave this album a pitiful 2 stars. I am frankly disgusted that he could have such little faith in PTW. I agree this work is not identical to their last album, but id like to know what he expects? - that they keep re-realeasing the same album every 2 years?
It is normal for a band to mature, in the way PTW have done with this record, if they dont change and mature, then surely their new records would sound identical to their last records. And i see little point in that.
I will continue to follow PTW with the zeal in which i have always done so, and i will pay nothing but pure ignorance to mikenashvili, as should anyone looking to buy this record.
