Fun read! Love the style.,
This review is from: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Volume 1: Change is Constant (Paperback)
I am a hardcore fan of the original comics and the 2003 tv series (as they followed the comics so closely). But I am loving this new series. I like the re-imagining of the origin story, and I like the look of the art. I'm going into this book after just reading JLA volume 1 from the nineties. And for me this blows the JLA out of the water. I much prefer this style of comic. If you're a fan of the turtles and want a well done retake on them, give this a shot. To be honest, I was kind of looking forward to a refreshing take on the turtles, kind of like an alternate universe thing. Since the 2003 series followed the original story so well, I was in the mood for some new adventures. Besides, I'm also getting the "Ultimate" volumes as IDW releases them... even though I already have most of the original comics... I look forward to the series.Note to Amazon, please send this in a hard box. My book came with a huge dent in it!

The dawn of a new era,

This review is from: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Volume 1: Change is Constant (Paperback)
It's a very cool thing to finally have a brand new TMNT comic thats not only handled tremendously by talented individuals but alas keeps very much in spirit with the original & groundbreaking Mirage Studios Comics and later the TMNT 2k animated series. It's a new era & a new world that paves the way for some uncharted & modern territory but maintains the atmosphere of whats made these characters so great in their 28 year history. This new chapter ignites things from scratch so it's the perfect jumping on point for new readers.

Great Reboot to the TMNT Franchise,
By Colin Sanberg - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Volume 1: Change is Constant (Paperback)
Haven't picked up this TPB, but I am avidly reading the monthly issues. I've been a TMNT since I can remember, and this series is definitely staying true to its roots. To avoid spoilers I won't go into too much detail, but so far this series has done a great job of re-envisioning the classic characters with a bit of a spin on them. So far it has stayed more closely to the old Mirage comics (thankfully without a hint of going off on any sort of outer space tangents) but incorporates some ideas from the cartoons as well. There's a slightly new spin on the origin story, which I think it needed. This first story arc has a new mutant cat character as the main antagonist, but there are foundations being laid for some of the classic villains to come to the forefront as the TMNT find out more about who they are and how they came to be. Fans will not be disappointed!

Great New Take on the TMNT,
By Tommy T - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Volume 1: Change is Constant (Paperback)
IDW's TMNT is my favorite monthly comic book right now. I'm a Turtles fan, grew up with them so there's a lot of personal nostalgia for the characters. Nostalgia aside, this creative team is making good comics. The writing on the book is great. There are a lot of fresh ideas as well as cool twists on concepts already explored in earlier incarnations of TMNT.Dan Duncan and the art team rock on this book. Duncan's Turtles look cool, they're expressive, full of character and personality. He does a great job with the rest of the cast as well. Duncan is a good storyteller, he can handle action just as well as quieter moments. Beyond Duncan's contributions, the colors and overall presentation of the art is quality as well. Solid story and characters coupled with great art, lovin' this rendition of the TMNT. Pick this up! |
