All too brief. Dec 22 2006
By Michael Stack - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
"Tell Me Baby" is the second single from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Stadium Arcadium". Like all recent Chili Peppers singles, Warner Bros. released it as a two part deal, splitting three b-sides over two short discs.

The single itself is clearly a Chili Peppers classic-- a funky groove is laid down throughout with guitar and voice creating dense, nervous, verses and open, breezy choruses.

The b-side on this part is the brief (about two and a half minutes) "A Certain Someone". Sitting on a delicate, Fender Rhodes driven melody, it's a decent enough piece, slowly loping along, with vocalist Anthony Kiedis singing almost awkwardly above it all.

No doubt any fan of the band is going to want this one-- I'm rating it three stars because of its brevity (it's a hard to find good value in two and a half minutes of non-album tracks), but the b-side here is probably worth the investment. Recommended for fans of the band.

A pair of nice b-sides. Dec 22 2006

The b-sides on this part of the single are "Mercy Mercy" and "Lyon 6.6.06". The former has a rolling funk bassline, a churning vocal, and a great, layered sound-- it also has some of the best playing by Flea of any of the "Stadium Arcadium" material, striking a deep fingerstyle groove. The latter track is a live jam-- Flea and drummer Chad Smith race, guitarist John Frusciante sets up a noisy lead before the groove slows and the sounds get significantly more delicate, with Frusciante settling into a deep blues. As far as these sort of live improvs go, this one is pretty good.

All in all, this ends up being a pretty good single, shame they had to split it in two parts, but a worthwhile pickup for fans of the band.

"Mercy Mercy Me" its a mystery why this song didn't make the cut onto the "Stadium" album!! Funky, funky and more funky. The lyrics snap and then changes into the powerful and emotional singin of AK at his finest! Lyon 6.6.06 is a live instemental/Jam that overall has a darker sound not useually heard from the RHCP's but for that reason alone makes it an intresting listen

Good single, with Tell Me Baby which is a classic from Stadium Arcadium, A Certain Someone is a very interesting listen to.
