Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

More Spamalot than Camelot, the debut of Black's Doomsday Brotherhood series introduces Marrok of Cadbury, who was a brave warrior in King Arthur's army until his unhappy lover, Morganna le Fay, cursed him with immortality and perpetual sexual frustration. Fifteen centuries later, Marrok is working as a sculptor in London and searching for a way to unlock Morganna's nasty little book of spells, the Doomsday Diary, though he's not sure he can break the curse without unleashing the book's deadly magic. Marrok also has to hide the Diary from villainous wizard Mathias d'Arc (Cruel, clever, hedonistic, rapacious. Brilliantly evil.) and decide whether beautiful art gallery owner Olivia Gray, Morganna's descendant, is his greatest nemesis or his sexual salvation. This orgasmic paranormal might make T.H. White turn over in his grave but will keep Black's fans panting for the next installment. (Sept.)

I read it but only after my TBR pile was empty. Even then I kept putting it down and forgetting to read it for a few days. Don't get me wrong, the story was well written and all the other reviews here give you a clear picture of the storyline. For me the gal in the book 'Oliva' was annoying which really made it hard for me to read. Whinny, "Oh who should I believe, my immortal mate or the father I haven't ever seen before?" She wasn't street smart, witty, funny, interesting, intelligent. But she was a soon to be powerful witch, young, a virgin etc. I had to skip over paragraphs of her "will I or won't I" dialogue as it set my teeth on edge. Thats just me. I enjoy a novel more if I like the main gal, when she annoys me well its a struggle.

Soooooo 3 stars out of 5 but as I said, it is a good book but not my cup of tea.

1.0 out of 5 stars how can it be both boring and annoying?, Feb 1 2009
By N.W. Reader - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Tempt Me with Darkness (Mass Market Paperback)
I've been trying to get thru this so long and have just finally given up. I'm leaving off on page 161.

Annoying things about this book:
1- Olivia is mired in an unending pity party; no redeaming qualities. I
find it really difficult to enjoy a book without a likeable female lead
2- The 'she has to have frequent doses of your semen or she'll die"
How ridiculous and dangerously close to the rubbish that drove me away
from Anita Blake,
3- a mating bond put in place by just about the least romantic or sexy
coupling I've ever read

As a basic concept I think the book had potential but the execution is just not there. Writing this review is the last bit of time I'll spend on what has been a waste of money and time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stalled Out On Me!, Dec 11 2009

This review is from: Tempt Me with Darkness (Mass Market Paperback)
Ok, so I finally finished the first book in the series that seemed to turn into a chore. The begining of the book captured me at once and I was thrilled with the strory line but then it started to falter and lost steam. I wasn't feeling the herione in the story at all. She did nothing but cry and "woe is me" throughout the book. "Does he love me?" "He's just using me to undo the curse" yada yada yada. These questions just kept being repeated over and over that it nearly drove me insane! There was no real bond between both characters. No real moments when they sat down and got to know one another. They spent their time rolling around in the sack and yelling about the same aurguments over and over again. I felt no connection with them other than fate forcing them together. I liked Marrok alot but even he began to wear on my nerves near the end. The characters just didn't hold my heart like I thought they would. By the end of the book I really didn't care if they stayed together or not. The whole Brethren group just didn't mesh well either. The men felt like forced characters in the book just to add more people to the fight. Even Lucan and Bram's friendship didn't really hold up for me. All in all, its a good standby book if you are between series right now. I'm just passing the time with it until the next book of my prefered series, (BDB, Dark-Hunters, Immortals After Dark, Midnight Breed, and Demonica), come out.
