This album is a set of near 20 songs (all written by Tom Waits) performed by Holly's trio. I consider this to be her finest hour (thus far). There are other songs she has done that I might like better than some particular song on this album, but this disc is so packed with fine vocals, elegant base work, and subtle piano interludes that it has become an irresistable part of my collection. And, a little note for you audiophiles: the recording quality is top-notch; take special note of the bell in Train Song (subtle and clean in spite of its tiny size). Which kind of sums up the album and her voice: subtle and clean in spite of its tiny size.

This disc is certainly not necessary for any casual fans but collectors and such will be very pleased with the disc. The tree extra tracks are quite good - especially the hauntingly beautiful "Shiver Me Timbers." It's hard to see why this track was left off the original release and relegated to import b-side status. "Last Rose of Summer" is a poignant track with a lot of strings and piano to support her wonderful voice. The alternate version of "Looking for the Heart of Saturday Night" is a little looser than the original, it will be a matter of individual tastes as to if it's better than the 'album version.'
Semi-serious fans will know that "Last Rose of Summer" appears on the Treasure b-side collection, so it's hard to try to justify the cash for two songs. The packaging does include some different photos from the US/Canadian release (a common occurrence for her catalog) but nothing else really screams 'buy this!'
Again, if you're a collector this will be a nice addition, casual fans can probably do without.

Collectors gold, perhaps not so for casual fan
