Great speed, layout, and a game I can play for a LONG time Sept. 5 2007
By Brian B. LaCore - Published on Amazon.com
Fun:
I have been playing this game off and on for a couple months now, and I can see myself playing this game for YEARS to come. A huge driving map, with many different cars and challenges, I will be going back to many of them once I really "finish" the game (which will STILL be a while).

The speed effect on the PSP is really good, as far as racing games go. I can really tell when I get moving (with the right car). Also, the different cars really do seem to act like their real counterparts -- mid-engine cars are much easier to slide and control sideways, some cars are very "tail-happy", and others just drive like they are heavy. Very realistic, and fun that you can tell the difference during the drive.

Overall, my favorite game so far on the PSP.

A very very underrated game. Oct. 28 2011

When it comes to PSP racing games Need for Speed and Midnight Club are among the more common titles out there. Deservedly so because they are fantastic racing games. However, this game I think truly beats them all. After about 30 minutes of playing all I could say was "WoW". I don't think I've ever had so much fun playing a racing game ever before.

Some of world's top sports car manufacturers are featured in this game such as Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Ford, Mercedes, Ascari, and so many more. Ferrari and Porsche are absent from this title but I forgot about that a long time ago. One of my favorite features in TDU is that you can purchase homes. Each home has a certain capacity for the number of cars you keep in its garage so buying multiple homes is almost certainly required. That isn't a big issue as some of homes in this game are beautiful set right next to beaches and golf courses. There are even a few homes that feature 1-2 mile long roads that lead up to the house which are perfect to drive on as there is no other traffic on those roads.

The visuals are quite impressive and if you find yourself driving around at the time of sunset the sky looks amazing setting just above the oceans of Hawaii. Perhaps the most impressive thing was the size of the free-roam area. To drive along the coast of the entire island takes about an hour and the island has a circumfrence of over 100 miles. To put it simply add the different free-roam areas from Need For Speed Underground 2, Need for Speed Most Wanted and Need For Speed Carbon together and the area in this game is still bigger. Each part of the island features gas stations, stores, airports, neighborhoods, resturants and anything else that you'd see when driving around in real life. There is plenty to do and plenty of places to go.

The racing is quite fun and the races are in a wide variety of lengths. Some races take just under a minute as they are about 1 mile long and the "epic" races can cover as much as 100 miles and last about 45 minutes. Winning an "epic" race has huge rewards. If there was anything wrong with this game its the cops. When free-roaming around the island you'll notice police cars. Anytime a police car is near you, you have to drive under 100 mph to avoid being chased. This gets annoying after a while because sometimes you can encounter as many as 3 cop cars within a mile or two.

Even so I have never had this much fun playing a racing game. This is by far the best racing game on the Playstation Portable and one of the best racing games ever made.

Having fun like a kid again. March 23 2009
By Mike - Published on Amazon.com
Fun:
Honestly I have not really played video games since I was a teenager. My 20 year old Daughter got me a PSP and a couple of games last Christmas. This was one of them, and I'm am enjoying the heck out of it. It's hard to put it down and the cars all really do handle differently. Its cool how more and more challenges open up to you as you progress throughout the game. Who would have thought a 45 year old guy would still get a kick from a game like this.
good street racing June 9 2009

I'm an older gamer and I started off with PSP racing games with the excellent Wipeout titles. With Test Drive Unlimited I am now enjoying racing streets with cars as opposed to space ships. The game is pretty much straight forward. The motion physics, mechanical engineering, characteristics of cars, and environment are simulated fairly well. Racing for credits to buy cars, property, and etc, beating the clock, and mastering your driving skills is quite fulfilling.

My only criticism are the (seemingly lack of) artificial intelligence of other bystander cars, hawaii 5-0, and competitive nature of your opponents. Sometimes I feel the computer is cheating with improbable actions and conflicts that often come out of the blue. And there are just way too many police cars on this tiny island. And the car engines almost all sound the same.

anyways I am quite happy now with my virtual Ascari, Viper, modded Mustang GT, Shelby's, Mercedes SLK, Alfa Romeos, and my two (quantity), million dollar waterfront homes. lol
