Product Description

From Amazon.com

Phil Collins is to pop music what Wonder is to bread, and like that familiar and ubiquitous brand, he consistently delivers the goods. Testify, his follow-up to 1996's Dance into the Light, finds the British singer-songwriter strolling through a mostly gentle collection of romantic ballads, with Collins on both the winning and losing end of relationships. He also sends a few messages our way with "Wake Up Call" and "Don't Get Me Started," suggesting his subscription to the Economist is intact. But the chief delight of Testify is in the sonics. Collins has clearly been watching from the sidelines, chin in hand, as his adult-pop contemporaries have layered world-beat influences into their music to haunting effect. "Thru My Eyes" is a spiritual cousin of Peter Gabriel's "In My Eyes"; "The Least You Can Do" has a decidedly Celtic lilt, while "Driving Me Crazy," with its woozy, cascading synth, is destined for car-commercial grandeur rivaling those featuring Sting. The title track, appropriately, gets added ballast from a choir, while a cover of the weepy "Can't Stop Loving You" (also recorded by Leo Sayer in the '70s) is a worthy successor to Collins's own "One More Night." --Kim Hughes

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new here, July 11 2004

This review is from: Testify (Audio CD)
This is just the usual Phil Collins singing in a whimpery voice mostly sugary sweet bad pop songs and one bad cover song.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is just as strong as his '85 and '89 albums!, May 31 2004

This review is from: Testify (Audio CD)
I have to say that Phil Collins still sounded superb on this album! It has shades of his '80s hits and albums all throughout it, but I love it. The first song "Wake Up Call" would have sounded so good in 1986 with his group Genesis. His "Can't Stop Loving You" has to be one of his finest performances as of recently. The atmosphere and landscapes of the song, the many bridges, and Collins' much improved singing make it so exciting after every listen. I like Testify, the title song and much of the second half. Tends to drag in the middle, but there's so much quality stuff here. This is much better than the last two albums and does really hold up to his '85 and '89 albums, which I love the most. He might be doing some Disney movie songs now, but he's best with these pop songs instead, his true calling.

I thought that phil latest effort was as equally powerful as the rest of his efforts. each album that phil released has its own exceptional songs that stands out the was in the air tonight first hit us. Althought there are alot of critizism about phil collin latest works, I believe that his audience, or should say most of his fans can relate to his music. Phil collins is a continuation of the beatles.
