Book Description

Sep 4 2012 The 39 Clues (Book 4)
The newest installment in the worldwide bestselling The 39 Clues series.

Amy and Dan Cahill are no strangers to impossible tasks. After seven of their relatives were kidnapped, the siblings scoured Europe for the priceless artifacts Vesper One demanded in exchange for the hostages. But then the Cahill kids are given an assignment that pushes them to their breaking point—a journey to a legendary city. Amy and Dan know they can't afford to fail, yet they're running out of options. . . and running out of time. With the body count rising, the hostages are pushed to desperate measures that will either change the game—or eliminate some of the players forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter can't put them down. Feb 12 2013

My 9 year old daughter has been reading this series with great excitement. She can hardly put the books down. She finished it in a couple of days. Great plot and love the fact the kids in the books are about her age.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Battle Escalates! Nov 12 2012

"There is gold and a multitude of rubies,
But the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel." -- Proverbs 20:15 (NKJV)

The basic plot for this book is very exciting and develops the underlying series quite well. The specific writing by Roland Smith left a lot to be desired. If you've enjoyed the series so far, stick with it. The outlines of some terrific upcoming books are starting to come into focus.

I especially liked the way that the escalation in what Vesper One has been demanding is deflected into some new kinds of plot developments. These shifts in the story improve the suspense quite a bit and keep the story from launching into an orbit with Neptune in terms of being over the top.

Grab a copy and get ready for some excitement!

3.0 out of 5 stars You have GOT to be Kidding me! Sep 7 2012

First of all, i would like to say that this review does not contain spoilers.

Personally, I think that Roland Smith should never write another 39 clues book again. I HATE his writing style. I didn't even think that I was reading a 39 clues book at first! The plot was very cliche and required little creative effort (Im hoping that there was an authors meeting with all the authors in the series to plan out the books and he got stuck with the worst plot). He made all of the scenes that should have been packed with action dull and predictable. It also seemed like he changed some of characters! He made Amy seem clueless, and emotional; but luckily stayed true to Dan's character. He then went and I personally think, COMPLETELY changed Jake. I also HATED HATED HATED HATED how he explained and foreshadowed Amy and Jake's complecated relationship status: friend or boyfriend? He made it so awkward and I found it insulting how dumbed down he made Amy appear. Im so mad that I spent $10 on this book! Get Rick Riordan or Margaret Haddix, but NOT Roland Smith!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nail-biting!!! Sep 20 2012
By C. Estrella - Published on Amazon.com

This is the best book in the series yet!!!!!!

With mysteries unfolding, plot lines twisting, and secrets unveiling, Shatterproof will keep you in suspense until the very end. Dan and Amy are thrown into the middle of it all again, and this time they're traveling to Timbuktu. With the help from some Timbuktian friends, they must execute bizarre ransoms, thefts, and heists. But with the Vespers' spies everywhere, how can they get all of this done?

I absotively-posolutly can not WAIT for the next book in the series! This may be the biggest cliff-hanger so far! Roland Smith has outdone himself! Shatterproof is such a thriller, that it gave me goosebumps! LITERALLY!

There are a few ups and lots of downs in this book. Betrayal, murder, and sacrifice doesn't even begin to cover it all. :( WHY!?!?!?!?! I am sorry to say that one of the hostages does not make it.(?) Or does he/she? I will give you one clue with the flip of a coin....

Heads.

Scholastic Books sent me the above book for review purposes. It will allow me to keep the book. I have no other connection to and have received no other compensation from Scholastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written Sep 13 2012

As an educator, I want to know what my students were reading at home. I often purchase a teen book, and after reading it, pass it on to my own kids and grandkids. I like this author and have read most of his books and series. Thisbook will keep the young minds trying to figure what comes next.
