5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have Book for the Beekeepers' Library May 15 2008
By Barbara TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This 700 page book is crammed with beekeeping information. It is very detailed in bees' anatomy and behaviour, complete with diagrams. Detailed explanations of how the bees process honey. Sections on how to deal with absolutely every aspect of beekeeping, all showing diagrams and drawings to reference how to do it (bees biology, brood, creating nucleus colonies, feeding, building hives, diseases, extracting honey, plants for bees, how to capture wild hives, recipes, etc., etc., etc).

I've seen this book offered (published originally in 1947) by just about every major beekeeping supplier and its also highly recommended by beekeepers as well.

You might need magnifying glasses to read the small print but this book is absolutely worth the investment. It's the most complete beekeeping book I've ever seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars an old information Sep 4 2007
By Elizabeth Alicia Pagliari - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The best of the book is that was written for a family members who have first hand experience in the field of beekeeping.
Unfortunately the information belongs to 1947, which is the original copyright. It is not 2005 as published by Amazon

1.0 out of 5 stars Bee Careful July 28 2012
By Ravenous Reader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you are looking for the latest edition of ABC XYZ of Beekeeping, this is not the book you want to buy. It's a reprint with a 2010 publishing date, and no information regarding which edition it is being stated plainly. Shame on someone for not putting REPRINT on the title of this.
This is a reference book that is updated every few years, and this specific, particular book is NOT the latest edition.

Every bit of information in this specific book is from 1947.

There is a lack of new and much more modern and needed information such as varroa mite, small hive beetles, as well as recent problems that have arisen within beekeeping.

I bought this as a gift for my husband thinking it was the latest edition, and it was not. I went so far as to write on the inside cover.

SURPRISE! He knew immediately upon opening the gift that it was not correct, and I felt horrible.

The ONLY reason I am giving this book one star is because Rashid at Amazon customer service listened to me, allowed me to vent, and made things right the best way he could. For that I am grateful.
5.0 out of 5 stars A little over my had as a new beek May 14 2013

A huge amount of information all in one place. Great reading. With the weather not very conducive to starting nucs, I've plenty of time to read before I get my own bees.
