The show definitely has its funny moments. The bonus features are excellent with interviews of Lou's daughters and home movie footage and the foundation Lou Costello built in memory of his son who drowned when he was 1 year old provides a view into the family's personal lives and was very informative and interesting to watch.

Although I had seen a few Abbott and Costello films, I had never seen a full episode of their TV show until last month. I borrowed this DVD from the library to preview it to see if it was worth buying as Amazon.ca was selling this set at a great price. As you can see, I bought the set and I am extremely pleased with it. If you read the product description, you will note that in addition to both seasons of the show (52 episodes), there are lots of extras. The book included is very informative. As for the show itself, it is very funny. I am not really a fan of slapstick as that form of comedy usually gets tiresome very quickly; however, Abbott and Costllo's comedic talents extended far beyond slapstick. For me, their comedy based on wordplay and emcountering very odd people and situations is what makes me a fan. Christmas is coming and Amazon.ca is still offering this outstanding set at a terrific price. I think it makes an excellent gift for any one who appreciates fantastic comedy that is timeless.

PS

In the episode the "Little Old Lady," did the parrot really say what the subtitles showed? Can't believe it did, but it is possible because subtitles were not used back then, so the garbled words of the normally clear-voiced parrot might have been used as an inside joke back then.

5.0 out of 5 stars great series wonderful package May 24 2010

Format:DVD
This restored classic series looks great, and not surprising to Abbott and Costello fans, is very entertaining. The 9 disc set contains both seasons, packaged separately with 4 discs each, plus a bonus disc of additional material. While Season 1 episodes opened and closed with Abbott & Costello on stage, and involved a couple of additional supporting actors (including the hilarious Joe Besser), Season 2 episodes leaned to a more routine sit-com. Additionally, the abundance of bonus material includes many home movies and interviews from the Costello family, as well as short "10,000 Kids and a Cop", and special "Hey Abbott" hosted by Milton Berle (a collection of pre-restoration clips). Also included in this box set are 4 photo postcards and a collectible booklet (44 pgs.) which contains notes on cast, production and episode summaries. Though every Abbott and Costello show was just an excuse to re-do their practiced vaudeville routines, owning this complete series package is definitely worth it, and a must have for fans.
