Mom's Choice Award Gold Recipient, Category: Juvenile 1—Self help

Thirteen adventure stories introduce children to the concept of virtue and demonstrate how virtuous behavior can make the world a better place. Each tale is built around four of the 52 virtues that have been identified by The Virtues Project™, a global grassroots initiative that inspires the practice of virtues in everyday life. The collected stories bring the virtues to life in lively, entertaining adventure tales designed to be read aloud to young listeners. Each tale is followed by clear, age-appropriate definitions of the virtues for the adult reader and the young audience to explore. Discussion questions are also provided to draw the children into a conversation about each story. These interactive tools foster a more profound understanding of the virtues, help children put each virtue into context within their own experiences, and provide a rich environment for learning—while young and old enjoy the thrill of a well-told yarn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book - highly recommended Aug. 15 2010

This is a great book. The stories are exciting, the illustrations are lovely, and the way the virtues are weaved through the stories is very nicely done. Rather than being labored or old-fashioned as some books in this genre are, this is a really fun and relevant read.

The adventures are beautifully written for kids. I was very impressed with the well thought out descriptions of virtues that the characters had demonstrated in the stories. The section at the end of each story was great for getting discussion happening and it really helped to get the children thinking and talking about virtues.

If you're looking for a book to read with your kids that is practical and rich in moral substance I highly recommend this one. There are valuable life lessons for everyone in this book. This should be on the bookshelf of every home, and they should put a copy in every classroom too!

5.0 out of 5 stars An imaginative stimulus to encourage children to become the best they can be Aug. 17 2010
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
"The Adventures of Mali & Keela: A Virtues Book For Children" is a series of thirteen chapter adventure stories that showcase four virtues per adventure for a total of 52 universally admired virtues explored at the end of the sailing trip. Each chapter contains an interactive section at the end to promote discussion and understanding of the four illustrated virtues, and an Index of Virtues is displayed at the end with pages listed for stories and discussion. "The Adventures of Mali & Keela" is designed to be read aloud, perhaps by older children to younger children. Its fun action and story lines are supported by its black and white drawings and illustrations. Children and adults will benefit from the discussion questions at the end of each adventure chapter. "The Adventures of Mali & Keela" is an imaginative stimulus to encourage children to become the best they can be.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book for my 8- year old! July 13 2013
By FinMN2012 - Published on Amazon.com

Book arrived quickly and right away my 8 year old son picked it up and started reading. It took him the first chapter to get into the book as it's structured a little different with moral of the story following each but quickly understood the pattern.
It's a great read and provides an opportunity for parents to discuss the story as it progresses through the virtue references ( a rare opportunity in today's world!).
Enjoy...

5.0 out of 5 stars Adored by 5 year old May 7 2014

My 5 year old son loves this book! Like most 5 year olds I know, my son wants to be a hero. It's not always easy looking up to Superman and Batman. Their heroics aren't exactly something a small child can aspire to. These stories are different. They very gently teach the true and attainable ways of behaving like a hero and treating other people with kindness. My son loves that the stories are adventurous and I really appreciate the gentle positive messages woven throughout. I'm so glad I purchased this book!
