Product Description

This Top Five Classics illustrated edition of THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES includes:

• More than 66 original illustrations by Sidney Paget done for the Strand Magazine
• An informative introduction
• Detailed biography and select bibliography of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

After Arthur Conan Doyle introduced Sherlock Holmes in the novel A Study in Scarlet in 1887, he wrote a series of twenty-four short mysteries featuring the detective and his colleague, Dr. Watson, in the pages of the Strand Magazine from 1891 to 1893.

THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES collects the first twelve of these tales—including “A Scandal in Bohemia” (which introduces Irene Adler), “The Red-Headed League,” “The Five Orange Pips,” and “The Speckled Band”—some of the greatest stories in the Sherlock Holmes canon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Choose this edition over any other Feb. 28 2013
By Chris McCaffrey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I have been re-reading the whole Holmes canon and this is the third installment. While I enjoyed A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of Four very much, I feel that this is where Doyle really got a handle on these characters and the way to tell these stories. It may well be that Holmes and Watson are better suited to the short story format than the novel/novella format.

I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of very different stories, ranging from a rather light hearted jilted lover mystery that introduces Holmes to one of the few people to ever best him, to a dark and deadly entanglement with the KKK in which Holmes can be said to cross a line by threatening his adversary with death. What happens? Read the stories. They are fantastic. Every one of them clever and varied and every one with a master's touch.

I also must praise this edition. If you are going to e-read this then get the Top 5 edition. It is very well done with lots of original illustrations that made the stories even more fun to read. If buying a stand alone e-book, I would get no other edition.

Sir Athur Conan Doyle is in my estimation the greatest mystery writer ever. This eBook certainly does his work justice, especially the inclusion of the early illustrations.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes stories. The original illustrations brought the story to life. Most of our modern day detective stories are built on the antics and methods of Sherlock Holmes.

As first time reader of Sherlock I was really drawn in to these short stories. Easy to read brain stimulation. Love the illustrations too, they really make it.
