5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting baseball story - well worth reading Mar 20 2012
By Eric Bynum - Published on Amazon.com
I really enjoyed reading this story of a ballplayer from Australia coming to American to chase his dream of making the Major Leagues. It's an interesting look at the struggles of a ballplayer in the minors with the added pressure of being thousands of miles away from home. But the book is about more than baseball. You ride along with Damian's life from before baseball in the States to life after it. It's a great ride to go on. I feel anyone would enjoy this book, not just baseball fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super Book Jan 21 2011

Henning writes with such ease you can just sit back and enjoy the story. There must be a great deal of 'personal history' in this book since it all rings so true. To say I knew nothing about Australian baseball would be a gross understatement. Now I do. Its a bit like reading the Economist talking about American politics-- an 'outsiders' view of playing baseball in America may be a more true perspective. And its nice reading a paragraph about American baseball that doesn't mention exorbitant salaries and rock star antics.
Henning is a good story teller. I'll look for more from him.

4.0 out of 5 stars Goals and resilience Oct 18 2010
By Zac Inwood - Published on Amazon.com
Not being equipped with a great deal of background knowledge on baseball I was somewhat sceptical about the appeal of this story for me. However, it became clear early in the story that this is a tale more about an individual chasing a goal and the resilience required to fulfil a life-long dream. This story could be told for any aspiring sports person and in fact for every person as we seek out our life goals. Henning creates believable characters and sets the story within a context that many Australians will quickly relate to. A clear message about the role persistence plays in achieving goals and how much resilience is required to reach your dream.
