HASH(0xa35501f8) out of 5 stars Hilarious, amazing, couldn't stop laughing Aug. 17 2006

This movie is hysterical!! It's dark and funny, surreal and smart. The scenes without the Ape aren't as great as the scenes with, but they are still carried by very strong performances and funny dialogue. James Franco is such a bizarre and original actor, imagine how he acts directing HIMSELF!!

The timing and interplay between him and the Ape is classic. Some of the best scenes ever put to film. The movie breezes by and me and my friends couldn't stop laughing and smiling for all 90 minutes.

It's not without it's flaws, but the hilarious scenes and moments with the Ape gave me more joy and pleasure than I've taken out of a movie in the past 5 years.

See this movie!!

HASH(0xa355024c) out of 5 stars Clever, hilarious... April 17 2007

I have respected James Franco as an exceptional actor since "Freaks and Geeks" and have seen almost all of his work. He is amazing in his ability to transform himself so believably from one role to another. This movie shows the spectrum of his talents. He has such ability to be so intense and yet can be comedic... all in the same scene! I was thrilled with "The Ape". I don't think I stopped smiling the whole time. I especially enjoyed his interactions with his fellow office worker when they were discussing their "out of the office" lives. I believe James will be one of the great talents of our time.

See this movie! You won't be disappointed.

HASH(0xa3869348) out of 5 stars James Franco in the Ape Jan. 11 2007

If you Think James Franco is a Hottie then you'll like this movie. Cause its just him. But if you like His acting you'll also like this movie. He really shows off his acting skills. It shows that he can really do a comedy. The only Problem was in the some parts in the movie the camera angles are not that great and a little shakey. But other then that its a really great movie and there is a bouns feature where James Franco talks about the making of the movie.

"The Ape" started out from nowhere, and, after 30 monotonous minutes of hardly having budged an inch, suggested to this reviewer that was pretty much where it would ultimately wind up -- NOWHERE!

While I, like so many others, am a James Franco fan (especially after having marveled over his starring role in "Oz The Great and Powerful"), this cinematic drivel failed to motivate me to budge one inch further into its apparently nonexistent plot.

If you're the type who, like myself, is far too often plagued by an annoying "completion complex" that derives from having to watch EVERYTHING ON EARTH featuring a favored movie star (in this case, James Franco), then do yourself the inestimable favor of renting this disappointing piece of bilge. Even a penny saved on "The Ape" is a penny you'll treasure forever.

This movie was surprisingly funny. I never thought James Franco could be funny, but there was some great dialogue in the film. If you can appreciate an independent film, I would recommend this movie. It has some profound things to say about the writer and humans in general. It might also help to love Franco:) It's a fresh look at the double theme, and, for that, I give Franco credit.
