Arrow Scrapbook stirs emotions, Jan 28 2009
This review is from: The Arrow scrapbook: Rebuilding a dream and a nation (Hardcover)
A beautiful wide-page book with a somewhat unusual but aptly described scrapbook layout. Part historical documentary, nostalgiac reflection and technical manual, this book is full of great dialogue, photographs of the aircraft and components, cutaway diagrams, development & test flight models. The author has provided lots of relevant copies of Government documents chronicling the development, costs and politics leading to the eventual cancellation of the Arrow because of US pressure. Many Arrow enthusiasts, myself included, consider the beautiful airplane's demise a Canadian tradgedy and travesty. This wonderful book also surround the ambitious efforts of the Author's dreams through the 'Arrow Alliance' to build a full scale flying replica of the famed interceptor that was decades ahead of its time and still draws comparisons to modern day fighters such as the CF-18 Hornet. Good luck to Peter Zuuring ! A great book and highly recommended for enthusiasts of the Arrow and Canadian aviation history.

Excellent Reference Documents, Nov 27 2000
This review is from: The Arrow scrapbook: Rebuilding a dream and a nation (Hardcover)
Scrapbook is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the Avro Arrow and some of the politics surrounding this aircraft. I've personally been studying this company and aircraft story since serving in Canada's Air Force and discovering that the CF-18 Hornet has nothing NEAR the performance, in the interceptor role, of the 1959 Arrow. Zuuring has reprinted Cabinet minutes and other letters which show some very interesting items, such as the fact that the Cabinet was routinely ORDERING the Chiefs of Staff to make certain recommendations regarding defence, recommendations they didn't necessarily agree with. Zuuring makes some commentary in the text which I find naive. What is clear from the actual minutes is that the government was not being particulary honest, while they were painting Avro with the same, or worse brush. The photos and techical drawings in the book are excellent.I recommend this book as a resource for historical documents and the excellent photos.

Arrow Scrapbook by Peter Zuuring, Dec 17 2010
This review is from: The Arrow scrapbook: Rebuilding a dream and a nation (Hardcover)
This book is rated as a highly recommended for Canadian aviation history buffs. The extra documentation presented fills in many of the blanks as to the why of the outcome of one of our highest visibility aviation projects. This subject still brings both a sense of national pride (in the technological accomplishments) and sadness due to the fact that government, the military leaders and industry couldn't get their acts together. A huge bravo to the author Peter Zuuring for compiling this excellent work and making the information available to the people.
