About the Author

Joel C. Rosenberg is a New York Times bestselling author with nearly 3 million copies sold among his eight novels (The Last Jihad, The Last Days, The Ezekiel Option, The Copper Scroll, Dead Heat, The Twelfth Imam, The Tehran Initiative, and Damascus Countdown), four nonfiction books (Epicenter, Inside the Revolution, Implosion, and The Invested Life), and digital short (Israel at War). A communications strategist based in Washington, D.C., he has worked with some of the world’s most influential and provocative leaders, including Steve Forbes, Rush Limbaugh, Natan Sharansky, and Benjamin Netanyahu. Once a political columnist for World magazine, he now writes commentaries for National Review as well as a weekly e-mail update known as “Flash Traffic” for business and political leaders. A front-page Sunday New York Times profile called him a “force in the capital.” He has also been profiled by the Washington Times and the Jerusalem Post and has been interviewed on ABC’s Nightline, CNN Headline News, FOX News Channel, The History Channel, MSNBC, The Rush Limbaugh Show, and The Sean Hannity Show. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Joel Rosenberg tries to include every detail about Auschwitz in this implausible novel. It seemed like he was just trying to throw in every reference we've ever read about into a big pot, stirred it and came out with this novel. I have read plenty of novels that deal with the Holocaust and this does not compare. It's like a Sylvester Stallone movie taking place in a death camp.

I initially picked up this book with some reservations about its ability to authentically represent the horrors of the Holocaust. While my view on that hasn't changed, I did come away with a modicum of respect for Rosenberg's ability to compose a compelling story about life inside this hellhole and the attempts to break out. In fact, history shows that there were very few successful escapes from this most infamous of concentration camps, but don't let that get in the way of enjoying a harrowing tale full of suspense, intrigue and triumph, with Jews and Christians coming together to deliver the oppressed. Just keep in mind that reality quite often does not offer a way of escape in the darkest moments of time. There aren't enough hiccups in this novel to really challenge the human will to survive in the midst of absolute terror and misery. If truth be known, this book really is an example of popular Christian escapist literature where good ultimately prevails over evil in this world.

There isn't much I can say about this book except that it is a gripping recount. Joel Rosenburg not only developed the characters so well, he did a fascinating job of bringing out their emotions and thoughts and of describing their actions in a way that made it easy for the reader to picture the time and the situations of the characters in the book. His handling of details is perfect, sparing the reader. Not only does he write in a fluid manner, he knows his subject very well. I never felt like putting the book aside during the read. Its captures so much in its scope like stories such as Disciples of Fortune , and The Great Escape. Every chapter was enjoyed.

I found the book to be an easy read. Its a novel based on different true stories but I would not say its excellently researched or ground breaking work, all of the information contained is available on wikipedia... The book was highly recommended by a British newspaper that I read but ofcourse, this was clearly just marketing and a biased review. Many people are saying that the story is highly improbable, but its not. People escaped in the ways described in the book and similar characters existed, however, being a novel, ofcourse a lot of these events combine to create an only average story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. No problems with the download. Everything went quite smoothly. An excellent historical fiction, Rosenberg did a very good job on a difficult time in history.

This is one of the best written Holocaust story.
You still see a lot of the horrendous misery the
Jews get from the Hitler's dictatorship. There is
however a very good story thru the book that
develops at the same time as showing you all
the horror. Hope this makes sense.
