I thought I was headed for surgery. I bought the original edition of this book about 20 years ago, and it changed my life. I ski, mortorcycle, lift heavy objects, play golf and do anything I want without any fear. My back may occasionally annoy me a little, (I'm in my 50's) but it never stops me from doing anything. This is the best book for back pain I have ever read.

I found this book very helpful in that it differentiates between various types of back pain by using four different categories for back pain. It allowed me to understand what kind of pain I have and to put it into a context. It also gave me specific exercises that are good for me. The book is not particularly kind to chiropractors, but I believe it is fair and generally open minded, and optimistic. I especially appreciated his emphasis on attitude.

Besides delving into the anatomy of back problems it also has very helpful exercises that one can use to help lessen back pain.

I was referred to this product by my wife who suffers from back problems and read a copy of it lent to her by a friend. I read that same copy and found it very useful and wanted a copy of our own that we could lend out to others with back problems. I found it straight forward and its advice cut through the crap given out by so many other Physicians that prescribe surgery not in hopes it will help you but too line their own pockets. It is to bad that bit is out of print, but the used copy I received was in excellent condition. I would recommend this book to any one who is thinking about back surgery. My wife and I have seen personally the devastating results of back surgery on friends and how it has made their condition worse not better.
