Director Hisayasu Sato's eclectic study of subcultures: fetishism, drug use, prostitution and pornography. Both sensual and unsettling, "The Bedroom" paints a nightmare landscape that is strangely attractive. Kyoko is a member of a club called The Bedroom where all the girls use Hallusion, a highly hallucinatory drug, and then let men do whatever they want to them. One by one, the women in the club are being killed and mutilated. Soon, Kyoko begins to suspect her lover, Kei, of being the murderer. But the truth proves to be far more disturbing. This stylish example of Japanese "Pink Cinema" co-stars cannibal murderer Issei Sagawa, who shot and partially ate his Dutch girlfriend in Paris in 1981. Issei Sagawa, Kiyomi Ito, Kyoko Nakamura, Momori Asano, Takeshi Ito; Dir: Hisayasu Sato. Includes production stills and background information on the Pink Cinema movement and director Hisayasu.

1.0 out of 5 stars Definitely not a keeper. Story doesn't make much sense., Jun 7 2002

Well, basically the movie is about a "club" where women go into a room, take a couple of capsules, and pass out. Then men can come in and do whatever they like with these women. Some of these women end up dead after their "sessions". I didn't care for it because it makes no sense. #1 WHY would any woman do this? they obviously get NOTHING out of these sessions. #2 Why do they keep going BACK after other women start dying? #3 Why are the authorities oblivious to the fact that people are dying in this club? Oh yeah, and one of the main characters is crazy. (I think that was supposed to be the plot) It is VERY much a Japanese pink film, script probably thought up over a single night with a large bottle of cheap saki.
Besides that, the audio/video was poor, english captions hard to read (white on white or black on black). If you want a GOOD erotic film, see Tokyo Decadence instead!

1.0 out of 5 stars Before you watch this, Oct 26 2006

and I'm suprised no one has ever noticed this before. But this movie stars the infamous known cannibal Issei Sagawa. He served time in a French jail for the murder of Renee Hartevelt in 1981. Eventually deported back to Japan after being deemed mentally unfit for trial, he served only 15 months in a Japanese mental institution. Let the buyer beware on this movie: you are watching the acting of a real life cannibal - and that for me is too macabre to deal with.
