Review

"I think the book is fantastic...It's a beautiful book with gorgeous projects and outstanding photography...A reasonably cost-effective way of owning the highlights of the first five+ years of patterns and articles published in Interweave Crochet." – About.com Guide to Crochet

"There is truly something in this book for everyone. Designers featured in this book are an enormously talented crew that includes Kim Guzman, Robyn Chachula, and Carol Ventura among others. There are NO weak links in this crochet collection." — CraftGossip.com

"This well-rounded collection of designs is a 'must have' for those who may have missed early issues of Interweave Crochet. Interweave is known for pushing the crochet envelope, with designs that continue to inspire the exploration of what can be accomplished with a hook and string and this book is no exception. Not just a collection of the magazine's favorite patterns, but a celebration of how far crochet has come in the last ten years." –CrochetInsider.com

"I think the book is fantastic. Five stars. It's a beautiful book with gorgeous projects and outstanding photography." - About.com Guide to Crochet

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of great tips Nov 16 2011
By Cllynn - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is the first time I have come across a book filled with at least 5 patterns that I would like to make and has tons of great crocheting techniques, shortcuts, and tutorials. A balanced mix of the two make this book a positive purchase for me. I am, as probably most people, a self-taught crocheter (Granny showed me the very basics but never taught me how to follow a pattern) so many of my techniques are rough. I really enjoyed the first browsing of the book and stopped to have a thorough read of some of the crocheting tutorials. One last note...finally a book with non-vintage styles! Thank you Marcy Smith.

5.0 out of 5 stars Combines great patterns with great instruction April 1 2012
By Rudy Fan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I've seen (and own) a lot of crochet books. So I always look for certain things to see if the book in question is for me. One is the patterns, of course. I am 52 so keep this in mind, but I really like many of these patterns. They will appeal to most age groups, not just younger women. But it's not old, boring stuff either.

For instance, there is this really cute item called Rosemary Sweater. It would look good on anyone. As you can see from "Look Inside", each pattern has the finished size and type and amount of yarn. There are charts and/or layouts (with measurements of all dimensions) of the articles of clothing. The three blankets are also well charted. Oh my, those are some sweet blankets too.

While this is not a 'how to crochet' book, there are helps with more difficult concepts throughout the book. These are called Back to Basics and Beyond the Basics. These come with full color pictures when helpful in understanding the concept. I usually don't like how to stuff in a pattern book, but these seem to compliment the patterns nicely. For instance, there is one called Linked Crochet. I had never heard of that before; it looks very useful. Also, there is just the right amount of photos in the book, not too many and not in your face. The focus is the item to be made, not the model's perfect face.

The font is easy to read and the instruction is quite detailed. The book lies open fairly well as it has that helpful folding line down the spine. It will still need some help staying flat until it's worn in a bit though. I got this from the library, but it is now in my wish list. I really do like this book a lot!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my skein of yarn! Jun 20 2012

I did not care for the selection of projects chosen for this publication. It is not the "Best" of Interweave Crochet .
My review was based on the designs I have loved as a subscriber to Interweave Crochet mag, thus my disappointment at designs selected for this publication... :-C
