Book Description

June 28 2011 The Betrayal Knows My Name (Book 1)
Abandoned as a baby and raised in an orphanage, the kind-hearted high-schooler Yuki Sakuragi is driven by a need to find the reason for his existence. Plagued by mysterious dreams, Yuki also possesses the strange ability to read the deepest, darkest thoughts of anyone he touches. As both the dreams and his powers intensify, there appears before him a beautiful young man named "Zess," whose face tugs on Yuki's memory. He warns Yuki not to venture outside on Walpurgis Night, the eve of the blood-red moon, which invites death. But when Yuki's compassion leads him to disobey Zess's order, has Yuki carelessly thrown his life away before he's even given himself the chance to find out the very reason for it?

4.0 out of 5 stars I'll be continuing with this series Nov. 8 2013

Story:
(4/5) Yuki was abandoned as a baby in an orphanage. He has a strange power where he can look into the deepest and darkest thoughts of a person by touching them. One day, he meets a strange man named Zess and a group of people called the Giou Clan. The Giou Clan has had a thousand year war with the Duras (demons). They have the answers to his power and perhaps a meaning to his existence.

Now from the get-go, the story doesn't seem very original or particularity interesting. It doesn't help that the back summary is so vague. Though what I found to be the most different in this story - about a group fighting otherworldly demons - is they're the same people reincarnated over and over. Personally, I love stories about reincarnations. The whole reason to why they were reincarnated, their past, the people they knew, if they differ from their past lives or not, etc - all these things really appeal to me and are chock-full of potential story lines and mysteries to be uncovered. Add that to an entire group that's been reincarnated over and over, and you can count me in!

The first couple of chapters started off really slow, but after the revelations about the Duras and Giou Clan and the introduction of the other characters, the story started to become good! The Betrayal Knows My Name volumes are pretty huge (this one was 365 pages long and larger than your stranded manga). These volumes are actually two volumes in one of the Japanese edition. That was good, considering the first volume was pretty slow and unsatisfying, but added with second volume, it was very satisfying.

Main Character:
(4/5) Yuki Sakurai is our main character. He's gentle and kind to a fault, but he's also very lonely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really awesome manga, not yaoi June 17 2011
By Jessie Potts - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I just want to say that I had no idea this was an omnibus edition, I thought it was a yaoi (hey that's Amazon's tags for you) and really didn't know what to expect. I also didn't know this was an anime (but am very pleased to find out it is!) Upon opening the package I was shocked at how large this manga was, I bought it for $12 so I just assumed it was a regular sized manga, didn't know the listing price was 18.99. I eagerly opened it up, and was sucked right in.

Yuki has a power where he can see/feel what others are feeling or traumatic pasts. It is a bit debilitating, but he figures he can live with it and figure out what to do. He was orphaned at birth, and is honestly a genuinely good person. He reminds me of the Tohru from Fruits Basket, expect I find Yuki less annoying. He's so good and knows just what to say, that's where I drew the similarities from. Anyway he starts meeting these new people, and then suddenly he almost gets hit by a speeding car, these are just the beginnings for Yuki as he discovers he does have family, and is a part of something much bigger than he could ever imagine.

The characters are all fantastic, for someone who isn't used to reading mangas, you might want to pay really close attention because some of the blonde characters are similar. However the artist was fantastic, and so detailed, I was really happy and am now looking to see if there's any more works by Hotaru Odagiri. I am very upset that I have to wait until December for the second volume to come out, but will be consoling myself with the anime.

Ok now for the yaoi aspect, there really wasn't one. We get the feeling that Luka and Yuki were intimate in Yuki's past life, but Yuki was a girl, now as a boy there is a bit of affection and flirting, but nothing that would qualify it as a yaoi or even boy love territory. I have hopes, I mean remember Yellow didn't get anything until the fourth volume, but even if nothing comes of it, the plot is so fantastical that it would still make my top manga list. I highly recommend, and you can't beat Amazon's price. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful manga!! June 15 2011

Finally! I've been waiting for this manga for so long!

First off, This is an Omnibus edition ie.2 volumes in one! and the size of the book is larger and thicker than the regular manga sizes (this is my first omnibus book)with a nice lovely cover and four color inserts. So worth the price!!

I saw the anime first and reading the manga is so much better for me because the story is better developed and we see more into Luka's mysterious past. Plus the art is so beautiful!!!! Hotaru Odagiri's art never ceases to amaze me *___* the way she draws those characters is just stunning, smooth-clear lines and very attractive characters who don't look alike(that's very common in many mangakas...they tend to have look alike characters a lot~_~) she's the only one who can make me fall in love with a drawing lol the story is full of action, tender moments, friendship, strong bonds and it also deals a lot with the fear of being alone or losing that precious someone.

I should also mention that I had a huge dislike for Yuki(the main character) in the anime but now that I finished reading my manga, I happily realized that i like Yuki! He's not that annoying, whining or miserable in the manga as he is in the anime. I could appreciate him for what he is: a gentle soul yet strong at the same time. I love all the characters, very unique in their own way, even the chef of the Twilight Hall and the Dr. pervert are very likeable hehe this manga can be very funny at times and very sad too.

Even though this is a shoujo manga, for yaoi fans, the BL hints are marvelous but never crossing the line. All in all, I'm quite content with the friendship and heart warming feelings that this manga evokes among its characters. Can't wait for the next release, a nice manga in my collection indeed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Awesome Just Awesome! July 9 2011
By Gustave - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Wow I picked this up and for the price of $12.00 it is so awesome. This is an ominbus and focus on a teenager name yuki who was abandon as a baby and raised in an orphanage. As he gets older he begins experiencing all kinds of weird paranormal situations. Other characters begin to emerge such as Zess, tooko, tsukumo, etc and all have to do with both yuki's past and future. I'll leave it there not wanting to give much away except, the art work is beautiful the characters are in depth and the action and story are a plus. Overall all I give volume 1 an A+ great start, can't wait for volume 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming and Exciting Dec 1 2011
By MariAnKenobi - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
In spite of its "Yaoi" label, Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru (Betrayal Knows My Name) is strong on deep bonds and free of sex (at least in the first two volumes). This author tends to focus on beautiful and meaningful male friendships rather than romance. Most of the other reviews have covered the storyline, so I'll leave that alone. I'll just say that the emotional value and supernatural elements make this series a worthwhile read. Give it a try!!
Just be warned that it can get a bit wordy at times. Much like Shoujo manga, there is a lot of introspection and soul searching on the part of the characters.
