Book Description

June 12 1978 Black Stallion (Book 10)
Bonfire, the Black Stallion’s colt who is a champion harness racer, is in training for the biggest race of his career: the Hambletonian. But a routine practice race turns disastrous in a collision of wood, metal, horses, and jockeys. Bonfire escapes unharmed, but is spooked and refuses to race. Alec Ramsey, the owner of the Black, witnesses the crash and is determined to see that Bonfire follow in the winning footsteps of his world-famous sire.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alec has to bring Bonfire back into racing Jan. 2 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
In this book, Bonfire suffers an accident that gives him a fear of horses coming up on his right side. Tom breaks a bone and can't race, so Alec and Henry have to help Bonfire get into racing before the Hambeltonian, one of the biggest races in Bonfire's career! I like this book not only because of Bonfire, but also because Alec trains him for once. I really like the books when Alec meets up with one of the other main boys (Tom or Steve). It also shows a definate problem and solution, as well as obstacles to overcome along the way.

4.0 out of 5 stars The long awaited and long needed return of Bonfire. Dec 22 1999
By June G. Fearn - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
One of the better later books of the series, "The Black Stallion's Sulky Colt" continues the story of the harness champion and second son of the Black, Bonfire. Alec must help Bonfire's owner and driver, Tom Messenger and Jimmy Creech, after the horse starts spooking at horses on his right side after a bad accident. The ending is perdictable but the trip between is refreshing and interesting as Farley peppers his writing with information about harness racing. Worth the time and money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Farley's Magic Jan. 30 2010
By Aliesha Shepherd - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you are a horse fan and want to know as much as you can about everything related to horses you will love the information gleened from Farley's story about a Sulky racing son of the black. Farley has a timeless way of making it seem like the fairs still run today as they were in the 50's and 60's. It also shows the difference in older generations compared to the younger ones and how they can still respect each other and get along. All in all, not my favorite out of the Black Stallion set, but I still enjoyed the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Black Stallion's Sulky Colt Sept. 23 2007
By B. Fiala - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I would highly recommend all of the Black Stallion Books for adults as well as children. I have recently purchased the whole collection and have been reading them to a very sharp elderly gentleman. I read 4 or 5 of them as a young girl and have found that I enjoy them even more as an adult of 57yrs. Walter Farley's writing is superb. Thank you Amazon for the quick and reasonable service you provide.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Sulky Racing Excitement June 14 2011
By Ohioan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I found this story very exciting because it brought back Bonfire, because it created a situation where Alec, who didn't know how to harness race, had to learn how, and because in reading it I learned all about the Hambiltonian and heats. A very enjoyable story.
