If you read up on this band, there's not really much I can tell you about them that you don't know. They're notorious for their outrageously violent lyrics and album art, which details such interesting subject matter such as torture, rape, murder, masochism, and combinations thereof. Musically, they are known for straight-up, brutal death metal.

A while back, a friend burnt me a copy of Bloodthirsty. To be honest I didn't find it all that good; there were four or five good songs but the rest of that album struck me as rather boring and same-sounding throughout.

I saw this in a used CD store and through my friend's persuasion, I decided to give it a chance. What I discovered was a pleasant surpised.

You see, I'm not much into death metal aside from Death, Suffocation, Cryptopsy.. but this album is quite good. Sure say what you want about the lyrics, the only point was to make it the metal equivalent of a slasher film, and can you really find an example of that better than Corpse?

The songs are well written, to the point that some are even darkly catchy. The first three songs, are good examples. The vocals are suitably guttural.

The musicianship is excellent - they can play their instruments very well, and if you think otherwise, you're a moron. (Don't argue with this - I've been playing guitar and bass for years and I know good playing when I hear it). Bassist Alex Webster is one of the best bassists in extreme music, bar none. The album sags during the second half, but even then it's decent.

I'm pretty open- minded when it comes to music. I like pretty much any form of metal or rock, except power metal which just plain sucks, emo, indo, nu metal... I love classic rock. I love hardcore. I especially love rap/hip-hop.

Some dude on here who goes by Serj Tankien compares this to System of a Down. Just shut up, okay? They're two completely different forms of metal music (why do you keep referencing to it as rock?). I highly doubt that Chris Barnes and co. are actually necropedophiles, and I'm quite sure many more teens have intentionally overdosed on medications while listening to the chorus of "Chop Suey" than during the breakdown of "Hammer Smashed Face." So just piss off.
But the truth is, Cannibal Corpse is and always will be a rediculous aassemblage of wasted talent. Sure, you can bang your head to it, mosh to it, whatever, but in the end it's trash. The gore-littered lyrics and cookie monster vocals only make the music less intimidating and more silly. So silly, in fact, that it might be worth getting an album of theirs just to have a laugh. Even the modern-day metal superstars System of a Down are musically and lyrically more mature than this.
If you dig this sorta music, though, I'd recommend these great extreme metal titles:

This is the 4th cannibal Corpse album and it came out in April 1994. Despite that its one their older albums, it still has many songs played live to this day in concert since so many fan favorite are here. It opens with the mid-tempo "Staring Through The Eyes Of The Dead" which had a pretty good video to go with it, which of course MTV didn't have the guts to air, big surprise there!!! Next up is "****** With A Knife" and it really picks up the speed factor, and this one has lyrics that are more similar to the "Tomb Of The Mutilated" album. "Stripped, Raped and Strangled" has one of their most catchy riffs ever and is one of the best songs off the album. "Pulverized" is another brutal assult with some great guitar dualing during the chrous. One of my personal favorites is "Return To Flesh" which has tons of great riffs before the first verse and the best solo of the album in the middle and some great riffing to close out the tune. "The Pick-Axe Murders" and "She Was Asking For It" are both very catchy as well. "The Bleeding" opens up with a great lead-riff and then really picks up the tempo quite a bit. "Force Fed Broken Glass" starts off full throttle before winding its way into a crepping outro. "An Experiment In Homicide" has one of my favorite lines of the album, "I don't want to hurt you, I just want to kill you" an closes the album in fine fashion. This hwas the last to feature original singer Chrish Barnes who went on to form Six Feet Under. Many felt this was a critical blow to the band, but when "Vile" came out 2 years later, fears of them fading away were quickly put to rest!!

You think its too fast??? Too obnoxious???.....lyrics undecipherable, too heavy, too brutal??? must be either shallow minded or have no concept of actual musical talent. News flash, most popular metal is generic, simple, and quite frankly weak. Cannibal Corpse would school most of these little whiny wanna-be rockers. Corpse has been ripping S*** up for 13 years without slowing down changing or giving in to stupid trends. Simply the sickest death metal there is. This album in particular is my favorite. Chris Barnes lets out some brutal....almost frightening screams. Alex Webster is in a class of his own when it comes to bass(If you have ever seen them live you know exactly what I'm talking about). guitars and drums are incredible as usual. Tracks to check out immediately are 1,2,3,6, and 9. I would like to point out that "Force fed broken glass" is one of the sickest songs I've ever heard. It breaks down in the middle and has a part where you hear someone choking in the background of the most haunting sounds you can make with four instruments. Well just check it out. And to all you cute little hot topic "metal-heads"......don't fall for the is a joke, support death metal!!!
